spdif to 5.1

I looked a year ago, and a year before that.

I'm looking for a converter that does spdif optical and/or coax to lets say 6 channels RCA (5.1) line level jacks. I see plenty of digital to stereo but nothing giving 6 outputs. Why is that? No one whats to do this?

I have more than one source that I want to mix together (not select between)

Can anyone help?

This has been posted before, but your two options are essentially:
1) Use a computer audio card, something in an M-audio for example could be found reasonably priced used if need be. several brands exist with SPDIF in, 5.1/6.1/7.1 out.
2) rip apart a licensed player that has inputs/ouput and hack your own converter.

If the signal is DTS or something you run into licensing issues which is why you don't see piles of converters.

let me explain exactly what I'm trying to do. I have more than one computer I want to mix into an amp. I don't want to select just one computer at a time, I want to be able to hear all of them at the same time. Right now I have three analog cables coming out of each computer soundcard into a patch board I built and would like to just maybe build a board that is a unity gain multi spdif mixer. Or is this a pipe dream because of cost?

So, to sum it up... a multi spdif input, unity gain mixer to either 6 analog out or coax or optical would do it.
