Spatializer - hardware etc

When listening to streaming media via VLC media player on my system through my DAC, there is an equaliser built into the software and also a spatializer. Neither of which I tend to use but bear with this.

The spatializer has settings for width, wet, dry, size etc and is certainly very effective when implemented (anyone with VLC please give it a try).

Indeed, it's effective so much so, that when I turn the spatialiser on, it is sounds like my brother's DS system. A bit too artificially "open" and other terms etc.

Can/has a "non adjustable" spatializer been built from hardware? Are the top of the line Linn DS systems merely a reader and spatializer all in one?

I tend to listen to it without the effect on like I mentioned, but even so I can see how, in a showroom, people would be totally bowled over by the difference and spend silly money on it.

Thanks for any insight here.
