Spare part for Luxman L-230 amplifier case?

Hi everyone. I have a Luxman L-230 amp which works perfectly but when I bought it, the front panel end cap on the right side was missing (see part shown in red).

Any idea where I could get a replacement? I could wait to find a dead amp going cheap locally and raid it for parts but i) that could take a long time and ii) knowing me I would prefer to fix the old amp than raid it for parts 😊

Searching Ebay many times hasn't turned up anything. Does anyone know of the equivalent of a car scrap yard for audio gear?

The metal cap on the end(s) of the plastic strip may be quite a challenge, depending on your skill with fine metalwork. Given that you are asking about a source for a piece of trim, I guess you don't have much experience with restoration and spare parts for old amps etc. The original sales turnover of units like that would not justify stocking them. Perhaps a complete case or dead amp. would be a viable item if there were enough products sold and still in circulation to justify keeping non-working models that are otherwise in good condition.

FWIW, I think your only likely source would be another, similar series Luxman product like a matching size receiver, tuner, preamp etc. but it would mean wasting another valuable resource and that's not a good plan. They would best be left as is, for someone else to fully restore. Unfortunately, I suspect making the strip will prove quite difficult to cut, machine and polish a matching strip of black ABS, Polystyrene or perspex, for example. Then you still have to attach a tiny piece of precisely trimmed aluminium to each end. It may be all quite easy to a modelmaker, for example but if you are unskilled like most of us, doing the job properly will actually be quite a long and tedious task and you'll need a few precision tools, measuring instruments and materials for starters.

3-D printing?

Try model making and prototyping services. They make product models, and some offer services to replace parts, where a small run makes tooling expensive.

FWIW, Canon had some cheap 3-D printers, 220 GBP here.
No ties to them...
