i recieved this turntable to repair a loss of speed control. i found a couple of speed control chips not passing the signal. i changed these chips and it resolved the problem.

however, the stop/start button does not function. i am totally baffled as to how this button works. the wires go directly to a remote control jack at the back of the turntable and nowhere else.

the customer assures me that this button has worked for a long time. it may, but i cant find the mirrors it uses and i have been trying all sorts of magic words to no avail. other than that i cant see how it works. can anyone help.

Presumably the jack is one that only interrupts the connection
with a plug inserted, and the signal must go off elsewhere, or
the jack is a parallel extension and the switch is connected in
another direction also.

thank you for your reply. this is a puzzle only because the customer assures me he has been using this start/stop function all along without anything plug in to the jack field.

from what i can see this is absolutely impossible. the button has no electronic connection to the turntable. it is simply wired directly to the jack input.

the only function it can have is to send a signal to a remote source thru the jack.

i was hopeing someone had seen this odd problem before but i have to believe, the customer, no matter how sincere he is, is mistaken.

Well I doubt he is mistaken, it would be stunningly bad ergonomics
to fit a stop/start button that isn't intended to work on the deck,
unless its intended for the "other" deck in a mixing set up pair.

If I remember correctly the sp10 came with an external ps.
I suppose the "jack" is for the connection of the ps.
It probably works in a manner similar to the SL1200; the start/stop creates a pulse and the whole thing works like an electronic brake.

sp10 speed problems return

once again i have speed control problems with this turntable. (i am posting here because i have yet to figure out how to start a new thread🙂.

i found ic problems when i first had this one and thought i had it fixed.

however, now, when the turntable plays for a short period of time. (1 min) the table begins to stutter (as if it has a torque problem) and then it loses control and begins to spin faster.

i have waveform problems all over the divide by circuits and cannot seem to isolate the problem.

can you help????

The SP10mkII is probably about 25 years old.
I installed a number of them in Radio Stations in the mid 70's.
It would be wise to replace the power supply electrolytics.
There is probably some digital crap riding on the 5 volt line.
The start-stop switch operates a flip-flop.

When operating properly, the SP10mkII is a very good turntable.
The turntable is powered by a 24 pole motor. The platter weighs about 12 pounds! That's about all I know about the SP10mkII.
