Gday.

Am seeking info on these.
Just for a minute ago, a buddy came a "ditched" a pair
of these to me. This is what`s "printed" on them:
(in black)
EL34WXT
02 06

BTW. anyone can recomend a good SET for these.

He also brought a box of 6 12AU7, two labeled EI,
but the rest is "noname", so i haven`t a clue about them,
i just assume it is 12AU7.
also two Sovtek 12AX7LP.

🙂

Gday.

Seems nice.
From the little i could find on sov.34wxt, it is stated from several sources, that this tube is a bit bright. So what about
the tubes i already got, ex: 12ax7 + 12au7,?
or telefunken ecc83 + ecc82. I also have a couple of 12dw7
laying around.
I think this carton of tubes was ment for replacement in a guitar amp.
BTW. What wpc can i get with the sov. 34wxt in triode mode.
🙂

I use Sovtek EL34WXTs in my stereo amp, together with Sovtek 6SL7s and 6SN7s. These Sovtek tubes are not "fashionable" but I have no complaints, except that, in one of the 6SN7s, the two triode sections are not all that well balanced. I bought the EL34WXTs as matched pairs and I've found that one matched pair requires a somewhat different bias point from the other pair for the same quiescent current. However, each pair seems well-matched within itself.

I tried the EL34WXTs, firstly, in triode mode and then changed to pentode mode, which I found better. This may be because I have 89dB speakers and listen to a lot of classical music, which can have big transients and needs lots of headroom, even at normal listening levels (54 watts pentode, as opposed to 16.5 watts triode). It may also be because the 6SN7s are, reputedly, a bit "dark" and perhaps the "brightness" of the EL34WXTs in pentode mode helps to offset this.
