Source for Hardwood

Hi can anyone recommend a source for hardwood. I dont need a large amount but I would like to make some really nice tops for my speakers out of really nice 3/4 hardwood. Thanks.

Got a local saw mill near you?
If so ... contact them. They might sell a small quantity to you directly or you can drill down their list of local users.

Google shows one hardwood focused supplier in north central LI. They appear to specialize in recycled hardwood but also list kiln dried and they have a sawmill:

Find a local cabinetmaker or furniture builder. They always have cutoffs.

For the little bits you need you will end up with something really special for a few bucks.

Or, ask a local shop teacher.

thanks for the ideas, There are 2 sources that look promising and I like the idea of checking with cabinet shops. Just a note: most of the local suppliers carry reclaimed lumber for floors and walls and others carry blanks for turning pens. I'll let you know what pans out. thanks again.

I would use solid planks, not 2.25inch hardwood floor.

You might want to try Woodcraft or Rockler. I don't think there are any of their stores on Long Island, but you can order online. They are more expensive than a typical lumber yard, but the quality and selection is usually good.
