I have an old school Soundstream Picasso 4 channel class a amplifier that is having a very strange issue. The amp has been working fine for months and just the other day I smelled a burning smell coming from my hatch. I took a look and the fuse on my amp had melted on one side but the amp was on and no fault lights were on. This is an old amp and the switches are in dire need of replacement as some of them won't even budge. I have ordered these switches to be replaced but I am at a loss as to what would cause the fuse to melt but not blow. I also noticed after taking the amp apart to clean the melted plastic out that some of the solder from the fuse holder on that side had melted. Does anyone know why the amp would get hot in that area? Could it be that one of the switches is broken and the selection it is set to is wrong causing the excess heat? I am going to replace the switches and test the amp and will keep you updated but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what would cause this issue. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Those need to be replaced or bypassed. They appear to have heated enough to lose their temper and won't hold the fuse tightly enough. Another option would be to bypass the fuse and use an external fuse.
Jaime from JandRelectronix has those switches....I would recommend to clean them up with DeoxIt that usually does the trick if they are not badly corroded or damaged.
I just received the switches from him yesterday. I am going to change them all out they are badly corroded.
