Soundstream LW4.620 DC thump problem

Hello,

I have a problem that just started happening with this amp. When it turns on one of the channels sends a DC signal and tries to jump my speaker cone out of the magnet. It sometimes does it a few more times within 30 seconds but then stops and operates normally.

If I shut it down then turn back on within a minute it doesn't do this. If I wait a little longer it sends the DC again. It is only happening in the one channel.

Any ideas why or how to troubleshoot? I searched for a schematic but wasn't able to find one.

Thanks for any help...

I guess I probably do. I will pull the amp and open it up and go from there.

Curious what the advantage to not soldering from both sides is? What exactly caused the connection to be intermittent?

Also, what would a likely scenario be that would cause the output to have DC on it?

Having DC on the output could be almost anything.

The coefficient of expansion of the CEM board material is different than the wire leads so the connections break. You'll never see plated vias on the cheap CEM boards, for this reason. There are more expensive versions of the CEM material that can be plated but that material isn't used in amps.
