Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap soundcard with a good coaxial digital out. I want to use my pc as een mediajukebox. Only stereo sound wav's. I plan to connect it to my Denon 3801 receiver.

I just bought a Philips Dynamic Edge 4.1 at Best Buy for $26.00. It has an RCA SPDIF out on board.

I wouldnt agree with that.
I have plenty of sound cards here without SPDIF (coax or optical) outputs.

right! I have dossens of soundcards. none of them has a digital out.
Soundblaster live has one, but it's optical. and some people here say that the signal in that card is converted from analog to digital. That's no good is it.
I need a clean digital signal. prefferably coax.
I have a SB live with coax out. But basically, it sucks 🙁
There has been a thread before on this topic, maybe you'll be able to find something. Or google something. There are enough affordable, good quality cards...

I read those threads, but appart from everyone saying that SB sucks, it didn't learn me much 🙂
Some cards were suggested, but they were all expensive ones. I only need stereo sound. nothing special, but I would like a good digital out.
Well, the thing is that many cheaper cards have only 48 kHz output. So everything has to be resampled 🙁
There's also a thread about USB dacs. Maybe an idea for a real DIY'er ? (they sport SP/DIF out!)

Resampling Bypassing.
Hoontech have an adaptor card for SB Live and Audigy that provides Coax and Optical SPDIF Input and Output.
Kx Project has drivers that enables the EMU 48kHz resampling to be bypassed.
Eric.
Some SB versions require a modification - ask me if needed.
BTW - 75R coax SPDIF cables need to be 6 metres long for low jitter transfer- ask Jocko.

You could try to find an Emagic Audiowerk 2 card on eBay. I bought one new for $75 about a year ago. It has an S/PDIF coaxial input and output with no resampling, but no pulse transformer..

A few options for you:
Hurcules Game theatre XP.
TurtleBeach SantaCruz
VideoLogic SonicFury
All are based on the same Crystal IC and all have Coax out.
The SantaCruz and the SonicFury are identicle cards just sold under different names.
Driver support is decent (i wont say great) for all 3.
The SantaCruz/SonicFury should be fairly cheap... the GTXP will be a little more due to the external breakout box.
