Soundcard performance - realistic?

Well I found out (nudget by jcx) that I was not really testing the hardware but only the software.

In fact, I've been fighting with it for several days now, and talking to one of the designers, to get it work with Virtins or ARTA.
Just today I finally had the RME ASIO test tool working, but the measurement software still doesn't see it...

time ago my Fireface not working properly, to my surprise the firewire 800 cable was defective...

Hmm that's a though; my Fireface 400 UC is USB, but I will check.
Though, if it was defect, I would expect that it would not install and detect correctly for XP either.

Do you know what ADC and DAC chips it uses?
