Sound is just push and not pull?

Hi thanks for the very interesting information I see that they keep their price also used So it should mean that they are quality speakers
Imhe good recordings tend to sound quite good also on cheap systems I see they have a paper cone Good Plastic ones can have debatable sound quality

Very interesting Thank you very much Then maybe also single supply with cap at the output ? also used in the past
I see some rediscovery of vintage gear Maybe it is due also to their characteristic sound ? Some old amps have cap coupled output
Why not - sound quality of parts is essential, decides;-)
For example, I have a fat SE, 70 watts - for loud and difficult tasks - with one supply and output capacitor. Sounds good;-)

Good morning to Everyone ! my silly rambling of the day On single supply
Considering that energy in caps goes with the V^2 a single cap instead of two like in a dual power supply can store a huge amount of energy for music peaks
I have also the feeling that a cap charged at higher Voltage can deliver current faster ?
this is exactly what happens in tube power amps Single supply and high voltage power supply caps
Has anyone tried to mod a dual supplies amp in a single supply one with output cap ? at least for low to medium power could it sound fine ?

Unfortunately, capacitors are also constructed without considering current in all its complexity. It could make sense to use a few small capacitors instead of one large one. But these should be placed at ONE circuit.
When it comes to sonic characteristics, i.e. audibly perceived speed, the only thing to do is to listen and compare. There are different types, designs, voltage strengths, capacities... sonic surprises;-)

Below:
  • a capacitor film and the current (audible)
  • different parallelizations of parts (audible) - to scratch the head;-)

Interesting topic indeed What do you think ?
Interesting topic and (very) interesting replies, but sorry if I read things that in my opinion cannot be read.

I understand that in a technical forum one can even go so far as to make statements that have high or low technical value as long as they are not potentially harmful to others, but to make statements about the Physio-Pathology of Human Hearing by those who have no medical or at least no specifically related competences and do not provide any scientific reference seems potentially misleading and incorrect to anyone reading, in my view.

Edit to add that of course I'm not trolling at all, in case the idea occurs to anyone, but I'm perfectly aware of what I'm saying.

Hi and yes I understand completely For this very reason i posted here in the

The Lounge

A place to talk about almost anything but politics and religion.

But i see your point

I am not an expert and i would say could be or could be not The more i progress the more i am confused
Audio is a particular field of technology because the brain and the emotions play an important role
There are two main approach One that sees a high THD and accepts that Another that looks for zero THD
I am bipolar in this ... i really do not know in which way to go The brain or the soul
Speaking of speed i believe sincerely on speed I like high slew rate circuits even if i do not understand what they really are
An amp requires a fast delivery of energy from the power supply during peaks
This energy is stored in the caps Too small uF caps maybe placed distant from output devices are not a good solution
As an example i am attaching a pic of an amp that i admire at least for its layout
I love this solution with the large capacitors placed very close to the output transistors

Another one

And also the Voltage is important For instance and if I'm not mistaken for the flash of the photographic flash the energy of the discharge of a capacitor charged at high voltage was used and the discharge seemed like lightning
This is also the reason for low ESR caps
In a single supply the supply caps are charged at double voltage that means 4 times the energy
The cap at the output could be a problem ... expecially for the bass response

My similarly simple view: this forum is called: do it yourself Audio.
Audio = hear, listen, not see;-)
Do it yourself = practical action, of everyone within his skills and capabilities, including all practical experiences and ideas that are far beyond the horizons of the usual glossy offers and supposed expert opinions;-)

THD, for example, is commonly determined using visual measurement methods. That goes in the direction of #19: Building a guitar based on the 6 ground tones and their harmonics using only this:
... EARS CLOSED 😉

another historical failure of so called experts
I swear to you that your candor fascinates me both because it is fascinating in itself and because I realize that I demonstrate the same candor on other occasions (so, I also recognized myself in that). 👍

However, in my humle opinion, it is not a failure at all: (some of) them/they deliberately lied.
I don't care about the so-called conspiracy theory, I only know how much certain "drugs" (I won't even name them) costs and what can (or cannot) be done with that money. 🙄

Instead the "old kids" went looking for younger women.
After all, they could risk a heart attack. It had to be worth it, right?
Look, that the "old kids" (as you call them) risk a heart attack more with young(er) women than with Viagra. 😉

P. S.: Please note that I will no longer reply to certain "political" subjects, and if you want an advice: do the same. 🙂

I agree, most of all if/when those "supposed expert(s)" are anything but experts and just want to appear (with little or no substance) to advertise themselves by talking about whatever they don't know, but convince themselves they know. 🙄

Sorry if I'm friendly not yet sure about that. 😉
(In the above quote the bold is mine)
Hi true You got me
It's just that when the concepts are too complex I avoid straining my brain which has obvious limits
I always look for a simplification or synthesis of general principles For example I like proverbs
This is why I really like reading Mr Pass's articles The dynasty of Zen amplifiers
Because i see an effort of simplifying complex issues

I believe it could be a double-edged sword.

I don't know if all of them are electrical/electronic engineers here, but I'm sure who certainly isn't, and even if they were, and not all of them are, that wouldn't mean that they had an absolute truth, but only their small and partial point of view on something they have studied and which in any case is infinitely greater than them.

Mind you, I'm not "despising" at all, I'm just doing my analysis from my modest point of view.

Then there may be the geniuses, who perhaps haven't even studied and still manage to achieve their goals and to them I say: "Hats off!"
But then it ends there.

Because if it is true that "you really understand something when you know how to explain it to your grandmother" as a mind infinitely superior to that of all of us put together once said, then it is also true that if you "rely" on the minds of others you don't you'll never get too far.

Because your genius is unique and unrepeatable, and you should never forget it.
What maybe you don't have yet is the experience, but that will come sooner or later, with time.

And what "the other geniuses" say could be for marketing, who knows?
No one excluded, since as the wise people say, it is not that one is greedy, it is that greed exists and belongs to all human beings, no one excluded.

No offense intended to anyone, of course, but this is my (partial) view of the world and this was taught to me a long time ago, and of course I don't expect it to be realized by everyone.

And I assure you that I am not at all disheartened as some might mistakenly think, on the contrary I have immense faith in the good nature of human beings (me myself included of course).
Except the fact that I know it's not just that. 😉

Oh, that one's easy - always the soul. The brain is just a tool. It's just a problem solving machine. Use it to arrange transistors in splendid patterns, sometimes symmetrical, sometimes not, that amplify voltage and deliver current. Measurements can tell the brain when to stop iterating on the problem. It's the soul that ultimately indicates when satisfaction has been achieved. Usually by distinctly turning the brain off, to get it out of the way of the experience that's happening.

Thank you very much again for your very kind and valuable advice
I have prejudices. For example, I tend to divide humanity into two... those who don't really understand mathematics and who are the clear majority (myself included) and those who do understand it. Mathematics is basically a kind of language that describes physical reality
Mathematicians are the ones who truly made the world a better place. Those who made it progress
Now if they can give as a clean nuclear power that would be wonderful indeed.
And they are the really smart and maybe even better people
It is not for nothing that many mathematicians are also philosophers
I trust a mathematician who acts as a philosopher more than a philosopher who acts as a mathematician, another prejudice
Mathematics
When I think that the functioning of the universe responds to mathematical laws I think that if God exists surely he could help me with LTSpice
And then I could believe in miracles A Ginetto's discrete opamp My dream
And scalable ... that i could use as phono, line and power amp An opamp for all seasons

You have to ask it, with your :hbeat:.

A Ginetto's discrete opamp My dream
From what we can see, you have all it takes to make your dream come true, although naturally the "time" factor is an important variable.
However, in my humble opinion (and not just mine) this is the best forum in the world where you can draw on the experience of others, but you have to know how to "choose" who can really help you.
And for sure, at least for your projects, that someone isn't me! 😉 🙂

I affectionately wish you all the best! 👍
