No, it’s not a typo. I found this amp for sale, never seen a counterfeit Xplōd amp before so figured I’d tear it open so you can all see what’s inside. I assume I’ll find a HU style chip amp or some other flea market shenanigans, but we’ll find out together!
I knew it was fake when I saw it advertising itself as a class D 4-channel amp. This should be fun...

Ah, you saw the original ad eh? I contacted the seller to inform them it was a fake, and they took down the ad. Later on in the day I thought it would be fun to expose the guts for everyone to look (laugh) at, so I sent another message and we came to an agreement behind the scenes for significantly less money. I’m expecting to see some JBC type stuff in there, should be interesting either way. I’ve never seen a fake Xplod, have you?
No but I've seen a Kingwood (which had some odd translations) and a class B amp that was supposed to be a class D, according to the silkscreen on the amp.
Never seen a kingwood, but I have one here that actually says Kenwood on it yet it has a BTL chip in it and a 5A fuse lol. Actually I have two of them, but I gutted one case so I could build it into an automotive tube amp.No but I've seen a Kingwood (which had some odd translations) and a class B amp that was supposed to be a class D, according to the silkscreen on the amp.
Then perhaps I’ve made an imprudent purchase🤣Blöd means dumb in German 🙂
Package arrived, and I must say: I’m more than a little surprised at what’s inside this thing. There’s a legit, though cheaply made 4-channel class AB amplifier board in here! Does this still qualify as cheap flea market BS?

It's odd that they went as far as to copy the internal heatsinks and yellow push connectors. Without the misspelling (intentional or not), it could have passed as a Sony.
That’s what piqued my interest initially, Perry. I figured at best those were only for display purposes and didn’t actually work, but they do. Which means someone (Dong Guan Wei Da?) went to the trouble of getting even the fine details done, which is super odd for knock offs. And ever though it’s a single sided board with Korean parts, it at least made an honest effort at sound quality. It has all the right parts in it to make 300w peak in bridge mode, outputs appear to be Sanken (not sure if genuine or not) 2SD998/2SB778 and the power supply is using International Rectifier (again may be copies or maybe not) IRFZ44N.

What’s the manufacture date?
It looks good, maybe not meeting the specifications, refused by Sony .

How does an original one look like? The knockoff looks actually very decent.
I know! The chassis even appears to be die cast as the originals would have been, where you’d expect a copy to be a cheap sand casting with a lot of finish work to make it look presentable. But there’s no way they got those nubs on the front as clean as they are with a sand cast part, it must be a die casting.
I’m not sure which model this was attempting to clone, but real Xplod amps look like this.
No way, this is a fraud for sure. Sony never did a 4-channel class D amplifier in this case style to my knowledge, and they certainly never rated their amplifiers 1800w PMPO lol. What’s the manufacture date?

Sony never made a class B and called it a class D. I've seen Alphasonik (or something branded as such) do it, however.
I attempted to look up that name (Dong Guan Wei Da), it’s apparently a factory with a website and a FB page.

Looks like printing and packaging is what they’re into, but it could have been involved in electronics at some point in the past. Lots of these places pop up to do a run of some type of product, then either get bought out or change to making something else. It’s a very fast paced world over there, from what I understand.

Hello all,
So what price would make you think that you didn't get ripped off or think you found an unbelievable deal. Of course assuming you knew it was A/B and the specs were false.

I’m not even sure I can properly answer that question lol. Because if you knew what it was already, you can find 4-channel bipolar amplifiers for cheap all day long in this wattage class. The circuit design is ubiquitous (for Korean made stuff anyway). A quick search shows I can get a similar output for $80, but I’m not sure a clone as involved as this one would be able to beat that. Never know though, without knowing the original price it’s impossible to say.
Was it bought to use or simply as a curiosity? I've bought plenty of things that I simply wanted to check out. Some were disassembled and not even reassembled.

I was curious, but seeing as how it’s an actual amplifier who knows maybe I will use it lol. I don’t see any reason why it won’t do better than 50w RMS/ch, so it would be fine on door speakers.
