I have Sony VPLFX51. Now, the DVI input on the projector is supposedly set up for computer (data) only. I tried hooking up my cable box to the DVI port and the picture would show up for about 3 seconds or so and then it would cut the signal off. I called sony and they informed me that it wouldn't work because it is for data only. AAHHHHH!!!!!
QUESTION 1: what are my options if i want to try and use this port?? Is there any way to re-configure this or do something to make it work with a cable box or DVD player??
QUESTION 2: The projector does have component hookups.. is there an upconversion dvd player that will transmit the UPCONVERTED signal through component cable?? (a lot will only send the upconverted signal through the DVI or HDMI ports)
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks!

Long throw projector inside a booth
Has anyone considered building a projector inside of a booth and not inside of a box?
I built a projection booth that I can sit in for my OHP project. I have a Dukane starfire 5510, 410 watt halogen, 327 mm triplet lens. LCD is a Sharp QA-2500 payed $400. on ebay for it, nice panel.
The projector works good,
My only problem is that my throw distance is 20 feet so my image is a little blurry and dark, and 12 feet wide. I can adjust the panel to compensate, but still not completely happy. I have ordered an 18 inch american optics opaque lens from e-bay and a 400 watt MH ushio retrofit bulb and ballast.
If anyone has built a project like this I would like their input as to how it worked. I think the booth will cut down on fan noise and light escaping into the room. Plus you would be able to work on the projector without having to take it apart first, bonus.
Plus it gives the room the movie theater feel.
I can take some pictures if anyone is interested.

damn, terrisah.
for the money you put into your lcd projector you could now buy a 42 inch DLP TV.

Like this? 🙄
except I used a professional projector, ceiling mounted. although your idea sounds promising.
sorry for how crappy everything looks, huge huge project, havent spent much time on just the window. I planned on using glass with the edges painted black to give a modern look but it brought the brightness down 30%

a tv card and a dvd drive in your pc?

super-home entertainment system. I'm running an xbox, dvd player(s-video) and a computer(VGA) with dvd/internet/everything a computer with XP can do. 😉
