If one were so inclined, could a fancy headphone amp be built with the Sony VFET pcbs from the group buy? Which VFETs could be used, given that the output current/voltage swing needs for headphones are less demanding?
I have a lot of 2SK60, the low power version of the 2SK82 and hope to build a HPA with them. And use them as triode with gain, so no common drain. Something like CSX1 with F6 transformer twist.
But I have to finish a lot of other projects first😀😀

There's an all-Jfet Headphone Amp currently in the works... It sounds amazing. 😀
Fine, measuring and matching VFETs, design decisions, lot of work... I want it to be the best I've ever build 😀
Japan San.. Clearly doesn't Own a suitable sized Lathe........
Clever man doesn't even need lathe for that - he can always buy finished product

How does the Sony VFET sound?
Should I buy the Sony VFET kit even if it takes me me three years to get through my DIY audio backlog and build it? I've got an F6, a MyRef FE set of monoblocks and a BA-3 preamp im still working on. 😕

I think you should buy the kit and move it to the top of your backlog list. No need to wait so long to enjoy it.

That is precisely what I did.

Thanks for the advice guys! [emoji106]
Can anyone describe how the amp sounds compared to other firstwatt amps?

It_sounds_so_good_you'll_wish_you_built_it_sooner. Now get to work! 😀

I've built 4 other FW clones and the V-fet is #1. This is not to say there is anything wrong with the other 4, the V-fet just does everything better.
Nelson's quote when you hook it up to speakers,
"Note how much the amplifier improves their performance..."
He is talking about first hooking it up to test speakers but the same can be said about mains.

Ordered, you pushers. ;-)
Now to read all the documentation and figure out how much chassis (cooling capacity) I need.

It is not a hot running amplifier. A 4U case from the store will adequately cool this amp.
You do have to consider my above statement in the context of a Class A running amp. Compared to F4 or an Aleph or BA-3 amp this amp runs much cooler.

I'm very surprise because they are really have stock....vfets😱
VFET Sony's Rare 2SK82 and 2SJ28 (KE-33) VFET (1 Pair)

That helps. So plan for something like the F6, in terms of dissipation. It is not a hot running amplifier. A 4U case from the store will adequately cool this amp.

Yeah... seems like so...but try to put them in your shopping basket. that won't work...

Yup...about the same. Relatively reasonable to handle as Class A goes.

Hi,
Did someone compare it to the Aleph J ? Thanks 🙂
