Here is the final product. It was cheap and easy for me to build.
I think I spent $10.00 U.S. plus the cost of the screen.
Attached is the final result. A mobile tv monitor that I can tap almost anything into.
I tried the VGA, but it wasnt worth all of the effort required to tweak it into use.

Yeah went portable.
I wanted to make sure I was comfortable with the LCD. I just bought some of those 5 pack lcd auctions from ebay. Hopefully one of those will work. Then I'll tinker more with the projector project.

Liteyear, i bought one of those 5 packs and once hooked to a proper power supply they all fired right up and worked perfect.......
I might have gotten lucky but I think the only reason he's sellin' them as not working is because there's no included power supplies.......

i meant you can get the proper power supplies on ebay.......
if you don't already have one......
just make sure you get one with enough amps......
it needs 7.5 volts and i recommend at least 2 amps......up to 3 amps
i tried one with 1000mA and it powered it up but the screen had lines in it....check my thread for pics of what i got with the too low amps power supply........

Got the 5 pack sony LCD's today.
3 out of the 5 work. Not bad!
I think I'll begin tinkering with the projector now.
Any one have any guidance on the metal halide bulbs? I have read all of the posts. Not sur e if I should try Lowes or shop for everything on ebay.

liteyear.....glad you got 3 good ones......
i'm using a standard bulb from wal-mart that's 150watts....it puts out almost 3000 lumens.......with a stainless steel bowl cut to fit for a reflector behind it i think i should be able to get enough light through it to work.........heat is going to be my only worry......but i'm going to use 2 or 3 fans on a seperate switch to run for extended times after the bulb is shut down........
i plan on taking pics and posting them on the thread i started as things go.....(waiting on payday to pick up the final few things needed).......
if you can.....post some as you go and we can compare and bounce ideas off each other

Correction.
4 out of 5 worked.
One had bad hinges, which pinched a wire.
I had an extra set of wires and a good case.
The other one must be toast. If anyone knows any specific troubleshooting procedures for these please let me know. I'm not a super electronics guy, but I am pretty handy.

The corner of my lcd screen cracked when i was putting it into a mount, and stoped working 🙁, Do either of you have just an extra PSOne LCD i just need the lcd itself the one with one ffc cable from it.
Lightyear can you part with one that does not work for you? maybe the lcd panel is good in it?
My controler board is still good.

i wish we could get the subcatagories going and put all the psx screen stuff together.......
i'm looking for the exact specifications myself........i know the res is kinda low but the refresh rate and the colors are good......
the vga mod helps the res come up a good bit.........so i've heard

I also got those 5 pack deal off from ebay. couldn't wait to original adapter shipped, so I bought a 7.5v 1000mA multivoltage adapter today and tried to fire up. Only one out of 5 worked.
Rest of them was not getting any signal. Even no sound!
Lowjacker...Do you think they will fire up if I try with original adapter? Maybe I'm not as lucky as you.
At least I have working unit. 🙂

pangea, are you getting any kind of indication at all on the screen?....even the slightest change can indicate a good screen but bad lights or inputs......wait until you get the needed amps into it and make sure they don't work.......
when i used a 7.5 volt 1000mA source (bought at radio shack) i got some scrolling lines on the screen......when i sent a video signal the lines turned out to be the part that wasn't showing properly.....
read through my thread and you'll see the pics i posted with those lines scrolling through an image........once the proper supply was used and a signal was sent they worked right.......
what i'm trying to relay here is that the part of the screen that was working right had almost no visible change without a video signal going to it......so if you haven't sent a signal don't count them off just yet....get the right supply and a signal and be 100% sure before tossing any of them.......

too bad your boards might be bad,,,,,getting an lcd to work without a controler board is impossible i believe.......
however if you can find a cracked one perhaps the video controller board might still be good.....i think joe2000chevy cracked his lcd but has a good controller board....perhaps the 2 of you can work a deal.....

Things are going real slow. I have been so busy and won't be able to work more on LCDs until next month.
Bad news, I fried the last working unit by plugging in opposite polarity! HAHA. Damn multivoltage adapter(It has polarity switch)! 😡 I think the reason why the other 4 didn't work was because I did supply opposite polarity. Well, good news is I bypassed two small burnt fuses with wires, and 4 units work hehe. 😉 I will try to replace it by diode. The fuse in Sony PSone LCD is thought to be "poly switch". It is really "hard to find" parts. I think diode will work since it will block the opposite polarity. Directly connected to fuses are LM7805 voltage regulator. Input voltage upto 12v would be safe with LM7805.

It turned out that one of the LCD unit is completely dead. No picture at all, tried with working control board, perhaps cracks. Also, I totally junked one of the control board for expriments.
I've collected parts for the projector. Too much shipping cost.
