sony ps-x800 - not muting

Hello
Help needed / My sony player never go into mute mode.

It has two relays (RV801 and RV101) - and both relays works correctly.

Can somebody explain this? - and maybe point out what the cause could be.
This turntable should always be muted when the needle is of the record.

Even if the relays operate correctly the contacts might be dirty if any control the muting ,your turntable is certainly fully CPU /servo controlled --what a lot of adjustments and oscilloscope readings !

I take it we are talking about the Phono board as it has switching on it ?

At least that part looks simple enough on the schematic.

I have cleaned both relays.

RV801 is on the phono board - when this relay is off (needle is lifted of the record) - I have measured that due to the relay there is a connection between red and green wires (right channel) - and also between white and blue wires (left channel). I actually thought that this would mean no sound = muting - but not regarding my turntable though.

RV101 is placed on the System Control board". It is same kind of relay - and it operates simultaneously with RV801.
However before I did try to disconnect RV801 - and when it was disconnected RV 101
was not functioning.
