I also wouldn't recommend that. The resistance of the leads, even though very low, and also the lead inductance would drastically impair the caps ability to deliver a low impedance point at the PCB where it was intended.

This might not be so...

The PCB wires are not "magic" and looking at the layout, the negative is quite long and also includes a jumber.

I would mount the caps close to the rectifier, maybe dismount the rectifier and place it close to both caps. And then wires directly to loads...
 
I wouldn't mind betting that the original filter caps are still in spec. I've found in the past that high value good quality filter caps last extremely well. Not so with small value coupling caps. They are definitely a candidate for replacement.
