I had same issue today, original owner, powered up inserted DVD Power LED turned green but it just never worked right in that switch block amber LEDs were not ON after CD inserted. Cycled power button and power LED would not turn back ON red (It was dead). On bench root caused P.CONT had zero voltage and would not enable transformer activation relay to enable most of the power feeds (5V and 3.3V only active). Reflowed solder with solder flux to 80 pin IC204 on back side of FL114 and cleaned contacts of ribbon cable to switch block (front control buttons). This fixed the issue.
Hi Ronman2 , glad to hear that you sorted out your player. My Sony still sitting on sick bay so i will try what stated. Thanks.

Figure 3-20; FL114 P CONT starts at IC204 (Figure 3-17; Pin 24) and exits on CN201.
Update my unit failed again. Remote stopped working and cycled power button and no Red LED.
I reflowed solder again as I did see some flaws in original effort, Now works but I broke my loading tray Part Number A-6062-471-A when I forced the front faceplate on without aligning the drive door cover. I did figure out a fix as it appears one of those plastic snap washers popped off and I can't find it.
The IC204 solder joints were discolored and the IC204 plastic appears to be deteriorated and bubbled up unlike any other chip in the unit. (Quality spill on IC204?) I would be interested in a used loading tray PN A-6062-471-A and FL114 circuit board if anybody decides to scrap on of these units.
