Sony DVP-NS300 not working...help

I know that this is a dvd player but I want to use it as a single disc player for now since I've upgraded to blue ray.

The reason for the upgrade was that the Sony stopped reading disks. If you inserted a disk you could here it doing something but it would read no disk after about 10 seconds. I pulled the cover off to see what was going on. When the disk was first inserted you could see the laser come on and move in and out on the rails several time but the disk would not spin. I checked the voltage at the pins on the back of the motor and would get anything from 1.3 to 2.1 vdc, seems low, when the laser would come on. On occasion I was able to spin the disk with my finger and get it start, but that only happened a couple of times. I decided to put power directly to the back of the motor with a battery. It ran for about 2 seconds and then nothing. It now reads open across the inputs on the back of the motor, I guess I fried it. Now when you put a disk in the laser flashes once and it just goes back to standby.

Can the motor be changed easily? If so how do you get the part that the disk sits on off of the motor shaft? Is this worth the effort?

I have 2 other cd players that don't work either this was just the first that I looked into deep enough to see what was actually going on.
