I search the Sony DTC 670 DAT recorder schematic (main board essentially).
Does somebody could send me that ?

Hi All

I am currently using a SONY DTC-670 as a DAC for my Marantz CD 53 SE.

The sound of the Sony is much more detailed and has a bigger sounstage.

I want better transient response and better bass definition so I intend to start in the PSU.

As I could not find a schematic, I am hopping someone can help.

I am thinking in doing the following replacements in the analog PSU and hope some of you will comment:

Original To be Replaced by
2x 4700uF 25v AVF 2x 10000uF Nichicon KG Gold Tune
2x 1000uF 35v AVF 2x 4700uF Panasonic FC

Best Regards

Sony is probably fine.

What you really need to focus on is to improve the quality of SPDIF output from the 53SE. Search on pulse transformers… you should also use buffer before the pulse transformer and high quality cabling. I found that at those frequencies, the rule I use at work with modbus protocol applies nicely to SPDIF – min cable length 3m + strict compliance with impedance requirements.

Of course, if you want to upgrade the Sony – do it by all means…

Regards,
Nick

Hi

Thank you for your valuable info. Can you please send me some information regarding this mods ? I am not familiar with this type of connection and would like to read about.

Regarding the SONY, can you comment on the original caps ?

Best regards

Hello,

the first thing I done is to change OPA, the sound is really better now.
After that, I will take a look on the PSU, I will certainly change rectifiers by BYW98-200 and will change some capacitors

Hi Pascal

What do you mean as OPA ? I am sorry but I am new to this technology terminology.

Regards

Hello Ricardo,

OPA or OP-AMP is an OPerational AMPlifier. In the Sony DAT, they are used in the output stage and corrector. Sony used the standard NE55xx models. I replaced them by Analog Device AD823 and AD826. You can use Burr Brown OPA2134 if you prefer, I tested them and they are very good.

Regards

Pascal

Thank you Pascal.
You have been an invaluable help.
I want to get more dynamics and would like to start with the PSU.
Can you send me some schematics or fotos ?

Regards
