hi- ive got a nice looking d-99 its skiping alot- but plays parts occasionaly
i thought i read somewhere that older lasers may need the voltage turning up?
any ideas please

Contrary to the above, I routinely adjust the laser output to its required level (by observing the eye-pattern peak values). Never ever had I have a complaint from anyone. It's silly not to try to adjust the laser output on a mechanism that would be chucked in rubbish otherwise... Also, the new mechanisms routinely come ill-adjusted, so the exercise in setting the correct peek-to-peek RF pattern level simply can't be avoided. However, blindly turning the little trim-pot clockwise without an oscilloscope could burn the laser. You could do it just to confirm the laser will start outputting the required power to read all CD's, after which you should use a test disk and oscilloscope to adjust the power correctly.
