Hi all, just refurbishing a Sony CDP-70 CD player in fine condition ... now ... after replacing a sled gear cog. The player sounds great now other than maybe I haven't cleaned the sled rails properly and now I'm wondering are they meant to be lightly greased? Should I use silicon grease, Lithium grease, a light oil or leave them dry and spotless for best performance? There are no suggestions in the otherwise excellent Sony service manual. Thanks a bunch for a good tip!

I'm not sure what the best recommendations are, so I did it myself. What a lovely bit of kit to service, good onya Sony. I stripped the whole sled, rails and all, cleaned all the gears, rails and laser mech rail guides with alcohol, used a light quality machine oil on the rails and reassembled it, used white Lithium grease on the laser mech gears - it seems to be much better there than thicker silicon grease - and silicon grease on the the plastic tray teeth, it's not the quietest tray system on the planet. It all went together perfectly and now plays just as well, not a skip or track missed.
I would still like to hear from an experienced tech or two that is used to these players for some good tips though. Cheers.

so you did it very good. 🙂
i used most time for slider and gears (teeth) a standard Valve grease , like this:
https://www.amazon.de/Fermit-GLISSA...ords=armaturenfett&qid=1695725570&sr=8-5&th=1
and -as you did- silicon grease on the the plastic tray teeth;
for motor bearing and gears and laser slide bearing : synthetic motor oil . 🙂 (never gets dry or sticky )
