Sony CD Player CDP-591 keeps skipping

If you mean the eccentric wobble on the magnetic clamp then that is normal to varying degrees. The magnetic clamp is cone shaped and literally just drops onto the disc as the tray loads. Sometimes it will land more central than others.

The rubber on the platter should be clean so the disc sits flat and true. Once up to speed the friction needed to drive the disc is minimal. Problems with grip usually show more when doing track jumps from inner to outer edge of the disc where the motor speed has to change abruptly and also of course during initial start up to read the contents.

Its impossible to give reasons for the skipping without looking at the quality and amplitude of the signal from the pickup with a scope.
I understand, I will wait for the replacement mechanics and hopefully not skipping anymore

Update: Not skipping anymore!
Today I received the replacement CD mechanics and after some handling with the boards (the board of the replacement mechanics was not compatible with the one of CDP-591 but the positioning of the motors etc. was identical so I only had to do a little soldering work.
However, I noticed that the suspension of the replacement mechanism is much softer, and in fact it now reads the discs perfectly without skipping at the slightest vibration. I'm also using the laser that came out with the mechanism that is an old original kss-240a. It works perfectly and still has its factory settings!

I think trying to make something might be difficult tbh.

If I'm understanding your post above correctly then I would probably think the old but original KSS240 is more likely the reason it all works now. There was a history of some KSS240's having 'saggy' lens suspension (the internal suspension within the pickup) and I'm wondering if that might be a problem with the original player.

Idk, the original laser kss240a of this cdp-591 wasn’t work at the time of purchase, i.e. it only worked after slightly changing the value on the ef balance pot, but as I didn't have any special instruments it read but not as it should have and it was also very sensitive to vibrations.
So subsequently I changed it with a new aftermarket kss240a found on ebay, after this replacement it read the discs well but skipped a lot.
Now with this original - and presumably - little used kss240a and a good mechanics everything is fine
