Have a look at Rob's project for ideas, but there are many more on the forum, just do a search on curved and boxes/enclosures.
MDF cutting
Ola Pedro Martins:
Ca estamos nos a encontrarmo-nos.. Pudera, temos os mesmos
interesses! Mas vou escrever em Ingles, por causa dos outros.
Yours is a very ambicious goal, no question about it. But when
I think about the shine glowing in my eyes when I saw the ARIELS
I can understand your desire in bulding this clone.
Well, let me tell you, I didn't mention the ARIELS only because
I loved them at first sight, but because it caused me a lot of
grief due the complexity of their structures. Being big as they
are, if I didn't have a table saw I'd never be able to cut the
several pieces, so many pieces!...
The point that I would like to make is, to cut MDF a table saw
is imperative... A circular saw is feaseble, but difficult, with a
hand saw, FORGET IT.
Solid wood as an alternative, I really don't know. It would had
to be a very specific wood, solid oak for example which is very
expensive and according to several tests already done, not
quite suitable as far as acoustic properties go. Other alternative
woods, may be birch plywood, again expensive...
My dear friend, here my two cents (centimos) of speach.
Good luck
PS- Estava a contar telefonar-lhe esta proximo fim de semana.

Navin was building something with curved sides a few months back.

Sorry folks! It's in portuguese!
Well Mateus, as for the ARIEL, I really like the final aspect of them. We were talking about it when the phone call went down...
I've thinked of making the Ariels, but I prefer the look of the Sonus Faber. Do you agree?
About the sound, only after compare...
I've also know where to find Scan-Speak drivers here in Portugal!
A lot of Euros, BTW
Later at night, I'll come back here to let you know some ideas that I've in mind to make the Cremona's Clone.
I'm

Mis maestros me dicen que portugues es muy facil si conoces espanol... conozco espanol y no entiendo portugues... tan, no me gusta portugues... 😀
Those speakers are very exciting, though.... I'm interested in seeing what the portugese DIYers do with them.

In Portugal, the Cremona costs 7.400€ 😱
The Scan-Speak drivers give a total of about 700€.
So, if I can get my goal, that is making the clones, I'll spend about a total of 1.000€.
So, speaking about economics, I'll save 6.400€ 😉
Now, about makng the speakers:
I'll made a inner box in MDF and a outer finnishment in solid wood!
That's it!
Suggestions?

drivers
Can anyone confirm the models of the drivers and the xover topology?
Looks like
Vifa XT25
SS 15W4531? looks more like the 4Ohm version than the 15W8531.
SS 18W4531 or 8531? in parallel?

Go to http://www.hifi-notes.com/sonusfaberamatifabrikage-nl.htm and check the black boxes with white wires😉 that's the crossover.

-two SS 18W8531G00 in //
-the tweeter is a crossing between one 9900 and one XT25 😉

I'm designing the enclousure.
After that, I'll post here the drawings.
Of course, if anyone have ideas, questions or tips about this clone project, please let me (us) know.

another way is rob's way. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=68056#post68056
there are many ways to skin this cat...
1. use solid wood horizontal strips (6" wide 18" long) and bend it usng steam
2. use solid wood vertical and dove tail them into a curve (Peter Daniel has pics on this type of construction) I think.
SF uses one of these 2. i dont know which.
3. Rob's way link above
4. my way someone else provided the link already my wood wastage was less than 2%. mixed 3 densities MDF, Ply, and fiberglass.
these are only 4 ways i can thknk of another 10-12 but dont want to add to the noise.
for my next project I am thinking of making a cabinet that looks like Robs only tuned 90deg. the top will be the front. etc...only i am trying to find ways to eliminate wastage. all that wood cut out of the center will be wasted. ideas are welcome. drivers are push push 18W8546 with a 9900 below the front facing 8546. Also ideas on how to build a compact looking sub 5 cu. ft. push push that will sit under this sat (the sat is 30"H) are welcome.
