Hello,
Does anyone know where one could buy a Modded or Tweaked version of the Sonic Impact T-Amp?
Thanks,
Yip

i could assemble and ship an AMP3 kit to you for a small fee 🙂 go to www.41hz.com to check out Jan's tripath amp kits.
stock for stock it sounds better than a t-amp and can run on a slightly higher supply voltage to give you a little more output power before clipping.
email me at the address in my profile if you're interested.
there are also other assembled kits out there like the charlize and the autocostruire. all of them seem to get good reviews.

BTW, was that an offer for simple amp assembly or, would you also install the audio in/out connectors, volume and a way to hook up dc power?
TIA
My offer was originally intended to be one time only since I have a spare AMP3 kit sitting around. But if anyone else is interested (a few have already emailed me) I'll offer an assembled AMP3 kit with bare wire leads for $70 to those in the contiguous US and $80 to anyone outside the US (sorry, but shipping costs more). If you would want screw terminals for the inputs and power/outputs add $10.
If you think that's a high price, keep in mind that an unassembled AMP3 kit costs $35 shipped to your door. Factor in the time it takes to build and the cost of supplies and shipping and I think it's a pretty reasonable offer.
Feel free to email me with any questions.

Brian,
A very generous offer. In fact if you get many to do you may find it too generous, unless you are happy with $10/hour or less. You have to think of the time it takes to interface with the customer, unpack, sort, build and test the kit then repackage and ship. You will also have to answer a lot of questions when the customer finally starts building his amp. If you add this all up you will see why Jan doesn’t offer to build them for us. I don’t mean to discourage you but hate to see you fall into a trap.

Roger,
Indeed it is a pretty generous offer, and I thank you for looking out for me 🙂. I have thought a bit about the logistics of it and that is why I only want to offer a working assembled board. If I find out I'm charging too little I can always up the price a bit. A few requests have been for completed amps which I could do but won't for a number of reasons, mainly time and funds.
I've built a few AMP3s now and it gets smoother building each one. I dislike winding the toroids the most though... Your fingers start to get sore after winding about 6 of them! I don't mind answering questions and I'm not out to make much of a profit, I just figured that it'd be nice to offer this to other DIYers who want one but don't have the means (or desire) to build one. Bringing class d amps to the masses will happen sooner or later, so I figure why not sooner 😀 Plus it'll give business to Jan so he can continue selling his great kits to the rest of us!

Amp kits
Brian,
I second that thought as I also want Jan to succeed. I look forward to his further offerings as they will be better due to what he has learned. I sure enjoy his little amp 3 on my computer.
I haven't yet tried to make a shuttle for coil winding the amp3 inductors but this might help your fingers out. It is just a flat stick that will fit through the openings with V notches in each end prewound with the wire. This does help with bigger toroids but don't know about these small ones. The trick is to make the stick just long enough to hold all the wire and still fit through the hole. It helps if you can come up with a way to hold the toroid without breaking it.
