Sonic Impact mod question

Hi,

Moding my first sonic impact T-amp to feed a squeezebox2. I am reboxing into an aluminum case. The rca inputs came with insualted rings/washers, I assume to keep from shorting. Should I also install insulating washers for each of 4 speaker binding posts?

Yes,

do not ground the negative (or the positive for that matter) of the speaker connection.

That's correct. The speaker terminals most NOT be connected to anything but the speaker. Never to ground, never to each other. So use the the washers.

You will want to ground the case somehow, a one point.

I suppose you mean that Squeezbox will feed the Sonic? Not the other way round?

Hi,

Improvised insulative wahers but have come upon an "issue". Before boxing up the t-amp I powered it up and all was well (at least the led lit up). After boxing and soldering the 13.5V power supply all is dead - even the power supply! Checked this out with another t-amp.

I may hace committed suicide by directly soldering the power supply to the former battery terminals. Could I have blown the power supply by reversing the polarity? I was so close to getting this project completed! At least I still have a very cool looking box for my t-amp.

Yes - using a squeezebox with the t-amp. FLAC is a wonder thing.

Lastly -does anyone know of a cheap source of power supplies ( parts express charges $23 USD).

Not likely. That's what you should do.

Maybe. Do you have a voltmeter to check? If it doesn't work on other t-amps, maybe you did kill it. Or just blew a fuse? Sure hope your amp survived. They are pretty sturdy.

For power supplies, look in this forum for the recent thread. I got 2, will have a listen soon. At least they will work, even if they don't sound the best. Cheap, too.

Hi,

I did confirm that the power supply did not power up another t-amp. Will get my volt meter and test once we get back from thanksgving feast at in-laws on Friday.
