Somethings wrong with my spkr….help

Not sure if this is a good place to post this question….

my one main speaker is exhibiting a dip in its response. My mains are three identical center channel WTMW designs. Their XO is 400hz/1.8khz. The red line represents the other two speakers, the dip is the speaker that sounds off. What could cause this speaker driver(s), XO parts, solder joint. They are at least 15 yrs old

If you have a 9 volt around, test each woofer. Maybe mislabeled +/-. Or the wires are flipped at the xo connection. Or, long shot, the mid and tweeter are flipped.

or of course something totally different is wrong. Next up would be checking continuity on xo connections. I’d start with any xo part connected to ground since they could be bad and still let the speakers all work, just sound different.

You know those guys that build those neat XO boards that lift off, and secure with bolts and nuts, so service and occasional inspection can be done….

mine look like hell, they are hot glued in place. Well truth be told my Ex wife stabbed all the drivers in the cabinets when we were getting divorced. Only the tweeters survived, i replaced all the drivers about 6-7 years ago

I have a slow mindset when trouble shooting. Im gonna reposition the mains and first do a sweep of just the mid/tweeter since all i have to do is remove jumpers, then the woofs since they have their own XO board and binding posts, thanx guys for your interest, im getting closer…….

Since you're getting into it, you might be able to see a way to have different measurements overlayed on the same graph. It can be revealing to see the low, high and combined responses together, each taken in turn without moving anything.

Yup, i did it yesterday, but of course it was during a flurry of button clicks so i didnt know exactly how i did it Lol, but i did it once, it’ll come back to me.

it was overwhelming at first, but the first step revealed the dip, so that was good, now with the dual binding posts i can see the woofs all alone with their XO’s.

i really should pull the XO boards and make them accessible for any future testing, but not til i find the culprit
