Hi Carlos,
Here's the story. I had my eyes on these PSU units for quite some time as the price was very good and seemed like a nice complete unit. I have been putting together a Slewmaster setup with two seperate sets of OPS so I can compare different topologies and so wanted identical power supplies for both systems. So, I ordered the two units in the picture. They came yesterday so to test I hooked them up one at a time to my transformer which is a 55-0-55vac, through a light bulb tester. I noticed the light bulb continued to glow slightly so I felt the caps and noticed one was warm. I tested the second unit and it seemed OK. So, I hooked up a separate bridge with a 27K resistor to try and reform the cap and see if that would solve the problem. I left it hooked up over night to give it a good chance. This morning when I checked it, the resistor still showed about a 6V discharge. I disconnected it and gave the normal hookup another try. The cap got warm again so I disconnected it. I hooked up the other unit and turned it on. Everything looked OK and I didn't feel any heat so I left it connected to test. After 5 or ten minutes the one cap exploded. Wow, I've had them pop open and let out smoke out but never explode like this one. I'm just glad I was doing this outside. I had suggested these in another thread so I thought I had better let folks know so no one else would buy one. Maybe they would be OK at low voltage but they are advertized as 100V units so they should at least handle +-80vdc.
I am attaching a couple more pics from different angles in case someone thinks I have made this up.
I have sent an email to the seller to see if he will make this good. I searched ebay and there are a few guys selling these. I am tempted to send emails to all of them and warn them that these are not what they seem.
Blessings, Terry

alike flies over a cake.....where are them?...... so, i see you need a товарищ (comrade), a Tovarischsh to come and show you what mean to be a man.
So many threads and posts and the old boring folks using to come and to say something..... they look they knew something....now you see they do not.
Challenged they run away alike a dog with the tail in between the legs...vanished the parrots!.
I would like you to know that in Brazil and Russia there's a lot of real men.
Sometimes i remember these folks and at same time an image comes to my mind...and here is the image.
You see...my dear Russian friend.... with courage and strenght alike a bear... honorable and respectable Vzaichenko said will assemble...his is not shacking filled with fear...he believes in himself...have courage..... a man!
He is not the ostrich....but you....................

Спасибо Карлос! 😉
Thank you Carlos! I'll try to keep the courage 😛
Thank you by the message dear Terry.
Very nice..thank you that you let me know.
Someone told me that if we invert a capacitor and apply a couple of volts it gonna be permanently damaged...that gonna overheat when correctly polarized and gonna explode....i have to test the stuff someone said.
Also thank you Vzaichenko....always post translation of Russian words or moderator will be around very mad with us.
I have discovered a mine... a precious mine of valuable stuff.... a Turkish guy that is very competent to generate schematics....have creativity, a lot of interesting ideas.... i am inviting him to join our forum.
regards,
Carlos

Wow... we are involved in a dangerous hobby 🙂
I hope nobody's injured.
I had 2 caps exploded during test exercise about 30 years ago. That was totally my fault. I was much younger and much less careful, so I messed-up the polarity of two 10'000uF caps. At some point the outer covers (the "cans") just shot into the sealing with a loud "bang", like two bullets, and those small paper pieces - or debris, if you want - were all over the place.
I still remember that smell... Still happy I was not over the PSU at that moment 🙄
Everything that does not kill us, makes us stronger... and more experienced 😀
Thank you PMA...i have assembled your schematic
It is very good.... i know you are good...we all know you are skilled.... not in my ignore list...i respect courage and competence.
Vzaichenko..thanks by the message.... i use to play with caps...small voltage ones.....i hook them into a 50 volts supply, inverted and let them explode...it is nice...my kid side loves to see these ones smashed against a brick wall..they go like a bullet...i use protective glasses while playing with them...i am also a little bit old dear Russian friend ..i am 63 years old..with pains in my back....also pain in my knees....loosing memory.
Dear Terry, tell me the brand of this stuff...Brazilians have watched your picture in facebook and they want to put this stuff in their black list...the brand name please dear Terry.

Carlos

Yes, but no way to invert these. It comes as complete unit with bridge installed. Just hook transformer to AC terminals and go. This had a bad cap. Weird thing is both caps that seem faulty are in the same location on board.Who knows, probably all caps are bad and just the weakest went first. No matter now, I will not try again, too dangerous!

The translation is there... that was "Thank you Carlos!" 😉
Yes Terry..you have not inverted for sure...maybe in the factory or
the people that sold to you made the test inverting for some time...maybe..not sure about it....also not sure if inverting with a couple of volts it gonna be permanently damaged or not..i have to test it...i heard from someone...may not be correct.
OK!... Vzaichenko...i know the word meaning as i love to study WWII and then i have watched a lot of stuff in your language and i have learned some words.... forum rules say we can use, they ask us to avoid... we can but we cannot.... so...not to have them mad with us we have to post the translation..... some rules makes sense..this is one that makes sense to me...as i cannot understand all world languages.... then English is our universal language for a while.
I am a great fan of this Russian...i do love to watch his videos...i use to spend hours watching....i am learning some words (da da)

Hi Carlos,
This is the ebay add.
4 10000uF 100V High End Power Amplifier Board | eBay
Some of the adds call the caps Rubycon. This guys just calls them Japan Ruby. The caps themselves say NIPPON CHEMI-CON. See the attachment of actual picture of the ones I have.

Regarding the PSU units I bought I just received this from the ebay seller.
Paypal also responded that I have received a full refund so at least this seller appears to be a stand-up guy.

my opening bid is my TGM7 biassed into Class A.
You see the big man, he's gonna smash the competition to the TGM7![]()
Hi Gareth,
Is the TGM7 your take on the SKA GB150? Do you have Gerbers to share?
Thanks, Terry
I do not believe someone can beat this design
What i mean when i say "beat this amplifier"
- Means with the same supply and current you produce more power and less distortion...or one or the other or both factors.
- Means better performance related harmonic distribution.. What harmonics..how big they are.
- Also the amplifier must beat in dinamics... a sound comparison must be made and sonic references used... a real bell, the bell reproduced in A and in B..... aplauses recorded and the real sound reproduced in A and in B..... water noise from beach or river or stream recorded and reproduced in A and in B
- Also musics playing and comparison, with minimum of three evaluators...you use the switch to A and B and inform them A and B and they go saying with one is better.
So, i want the guy to assemble both and compare (not something a lazy one can do)
The guy gonna be my best friend if the beat this one because will show me something beyond my imagination, will open a new world to me..will show me the paradise.
I want to see assembled ... and both.... and comparison.... i want you to smash this one..then i gonna be happy....a new world to me... a miracle!... as someone proved me that the sky is not the limit!
Heavyweight people in the area.... Pavel makes my legs tremble..the guy is good.... Ostripper is also good....Bigun is excellent..... the Russian, i do think, gonna be my champion.
Am I wrong?..... prove me!
Can you beat Super Charlie and the other secret designer?

Carlos

Hello Carlos, thanks for sharing this new design of yours. I'm excited and will be building it soon. Simple enough to lay out on veroboard. I'm taking my wife away for the weekend so it might be a while before i have a chance to build it and report back with my listening impressions.
You gonna like it....but take care dear Ranchu, the hell thing is hot
140 watts of heat is not an easy thing...depending the Fets you gonna use it is better to install more than one pair in parallel to distribute the heat into a larger area from the heatsink.
Supply also must be huge...use capacitance multiplier or use the Dx Supply or you gonna listen a lot of low frequency from the mains.
Please, make recordings, make a video and publish the video.
Take a look in the video into the signature line down here...playing with a monster..this stupid killer can reach 2500 watts with 10 percent distortion and 1800W with 0.005% THD... can go to 1.3 ohm load and accept shorts in the output terminals and also can hold 2.2uf in the output with low impedance resistor and speaker loading.... sadly is just to show..this is exclusive to me..from me to me and to myself.

Carlos

You will feel strong emotions and big surprise
This lovely machine will leave Class A and will show you a huge dinamic headroom.
Put a chair nearby...when faint because of the emotions you may have a sit to hold your body.
It is class A.... but will leave class A when input level increase.
You'll be thrilled .... flows chills go down his spine from the bottom up and top down ... the gate of paradise will open up to you and you will hear the song of the angels.
A good power supply is required... a 200 watts power supply is required... a capacitance multiplier or some kind of series pass electronic filtering is required...please, avoid SMPS
Feel strong emotions.... Glub Amplifier...the letter "u" pronunciation is alike the "u" from the word uniform
Hey Bigun..... keep our secret!

Carlos
