Software alternative to HP8903?

I was looking into a used HP 8309B but was a bit turned off by the cost. In this day and age, is there any sort of software I could run on my PC that would (accurately) perform the same functions or even just some of the functions as the 8903?

Hpw- Works, ARTA and Virtins. Just add a good sound card and go. I use software (Hpw- Works is the one I like the most) and I have an 8903B. I use the 8903 less and less, but is a solid unit I will keep for a long time.

Silly question, but I can't figure it out from the Hpw site how an amplifier is to hook up to the computer when testing.

I'm assuming the RCA outputs of the sound card go to the input of the amp, but where do you connect the speaker outputs of the amp to the computer?!

You'll probably want transformers to do the interface between the amp and the computer's inputs. They'll implement the functions you need which is isolation (in case your amp has bridged outputs) and voltage reduction (because an amp's output voltage is too high to feed directly to your computer).

I would look at the equipment & tools section for sound card interface details. Some are as simple as resistor dividers and then Pete Millett has an interface.

May I suggest downloading April 2016 AudioXpress Magazine. There is an article that goes through the use of software testing via computer, soundcard and interface. It shows results of power amp testing compared to reference test equipment. This would help you quite a bit.
