Snell JII replacement tweeter recommendations

So the coating on these fabric dome tweeters are pretty much "see through." So I'll need to find some replacements.
(No I don't want to try a DIY coating.)
I understand these are 1" 4ohm and manufactured by (long gone?) Tonegan.
The faceplate is 94mm, and having trouble finding that.

Thanks in advance.
Dan

Here's a question.

Why no reuse the speaker cabinets and buy new woofers and tweeters?

And design a new crossover.

Is that just making more work for the sake of more work?

Or is it getting a better loudspeaker by knowing what I'm putting in the box?

Dan

It's easier to design a cabinet around the electrical parameters of a new woofer than to find a new woofer which matches an existing cabinet.

Provided your existing woofers are in good condition, fitting new tweeters would be the easier option. However, the replacement tweeters need to be a good match for the old ones in terms of impedance, resonance frequency and sensitivity.

What do you find wrong with the sound reproduction of the speakers as they stand?

The original JII tweeter is available for $105 here: Snell Acoustics Catalog - Atomic HIFI and TV

Would you prefer something less expensive?

Those are not the same tweeters as original. If I'm going to pay a massive premium, I would want the same driver, not a similar one from a different manufacturer.

I know you don't want to, but it is possible to re-dope the tweeter domes as described here:
I've seen that. Looks like a terrible process.

You seem to know more about these tweeters than I do!

The Tymphany tweeter I linked to earlier would appear to be a cost effective substitute since my research suggests they have a suitable resonance frequency and sensitivity.

However, you may have to make some adjustments to the attenuating resistors in the crossover in order to achieve the desired treble level.

Good luck!

Okay, I went with Morel 1-1/8 soft domes. I'd say I did a lot of research, but they had the correct size faceplate!

Just listening, but I'm super happy.

I had to get out a wood rasp and open up the hole a bit more than taking off the paint.

And what was up with one speaker having such short wires. What a pain that was.

Look at the state of that old tweeter!

Thanks all,
Dan
