hi
im new at both ic based audio and the use smps's so I have what is hopefully a simple question. I need a +-12v 1 amp supply to run the ti tpa6120a2 headphone amp chip eval board. Can I use 2 of these:

(one with the leads reversed to get the negative supply) for this purpose?
thanks in advance.

Hi,
headphones can produce ~100dB from 1mW of output power.
For low noise at the ear you would need <=-100dB below this level for the quiet passages. That requires <=3uV of noise at the headphone terminals.
Using any SMPS and cheap three terminal regulator to feed the active stages is unlikely to ever allow adequate noise performance.
Then there is the sound quality issue.
I recommend a low noise, discrete, linear power supply for a headphone amplifier.
