I picked up some SME3009R arms sans headshells, and wondered if it is worth the effort to scare up the head shells? If so, where could I look to find a suitable head shell? I don't insist on an original.
It's a standard fitting. SME can probably sell you some headshells but the price will frighten you. Ortofon make a range of "Concorde" cartridges that plug directly into SME arms.
The best headshells are magnesuim and they are still available
at reasonable prices - well below the TBH not very good SME's,
but they are not easy to find.
Ortofon seem to have given up on selling good
integrated bayonet mounting catridges.
Sumiko sell the HS12 but i can't tell if its magnesium :

For the Nagaoka.
