Looking for a small mixer (less than six channels) with a subwoofer bus. I've worked with "big" mixers that do this but smaller mixers, it becomes hard to find. I want my Main Out to go to a PA system and a sub bus to go to my powered sub. This is basically for a home-sized system that I am running like a PA/DJ system.
For instance the Behringer 802 has a control room output that can be used for this, and it even has volume control. However that also controls headphone volume and I'd kind of like all that free in case I add something else later.
The best runner-up ideas I've got is running Main Out through the powered sub's crossover and letting it deal with things, which is probably good for the PA anyhow, or (in the case of the 802) doing something with the two-track output. I just like the idea of being able to control the sub on it's own without having to go over to the volume control on the back of it's cabinet.
A few things I've found:
Behringer 802 - I used this with the control room out for the sub. It worked, and they are dirt cheap.
Mackie ProFX4v2 - has monitor output, which could work, just not sure if it's stereo.
RCF Livepad 6 channel - looks nice, gangs headphone volume and control on a volume control like the 802 however, but has a stereo return.
Thanks for any tips on this.

2 things. If you use a mixer this way to control a subwoofer...
1) The mains will still be seeing a fullrange signal, part of the reason for adding a sub is to take the low freq load off those speaker which will allow them to get louder and stay cleaner sounding while doing it.
2) Every time you want to change the sound level you have to change 2 controls, doable but clumsy.
P.S. If your powered sub has a built-in crossover let it do the job, I understand you may be thinking of using the sub control as an effect but you can do much the same with the EQ controls on the mixer, and once you set the relative sub/sat balance you won't change it much if at all.

Thanks for writing, conanski.
I thought I had gotten around some of those issues, somehow, but that was bigger equipment and who knows what I'd wired it for (and if it working like I thought it did).
So it seems like the best bet would be:
Main out from mixer ->
Powered sub /w it's crossover ->
Mains amp, to speakers
