Smallest cabs for each Alpair? Roughly ...

Hi,

A designer friend wishes to build a wall-mounted phone and iPod docking station and place-for-house-keys-and-stuff. I'm steering him towards Mark Audio drivers - he likes the look and I've assured him that he'll like the sound, too.

I think he's OK with using a subwoofer. Perhaps an overly broad question: For each of the new-shape Alpair series, what is the smallest reasonable sealed cabinet volume? I.e. the Alpair 6P and 6M, Alpair 7, Alpair 10.2 and Alpair 12? And perhaps the CHP-70 as well ...

Or alternatively, is there something in the T/S parameters that you can look at to get a very rough estimate of a good cabinet volume?

Thank you!

A6M in 1-2 litre sealed. I have a 1.5 litre vented for it as well.

Some SIMs attached (CHR are gen1, gen 2 is much the same)

Hi Dave,

How would you approach building a FAST system?

I'm still toying with the idea of adding a small'ish sealed box + Alpair7 to complement the 10.2 Pensils. What should be the volume/dimensions that I should be looking at? Would placing this complimentary box on top of the Pensil work?

Cheers,

Edwin

My approach to FAST is probably better covered in the Tysen thread.

Take a good Extended range driver -- you are not going to be asking it to do bass, so you can concentrate on MR + HF. Then add 1 or more midbasses -- you want something that goes reasonably low, but that extends up fairly high, i'd suggest up to at least 1kHz.

As with any system, XO is the hardest bit to get right. Since it is in the region of baffle step, cabinet size etc play a direct role. You do have the advantgae of drivers having good overlap, and with a low XO, essentially co-incident drivers, so simple XOs can work. Active certainly makes things easier.
