Smallest 2-way for 45 Hz output?

I'm interested in maybe DIY'ing a pair of speakers for my office computer for MP3 playback.

What's the smallest enclosure I could get away with to get bass response down to 45 Hz or so? I was thinking of using the Adire Extremis in a small sealed box with a Linkwitz transform circuit, but I suspect I could make things simpler (and cheaper) with a ported enclosure and the 'right' driver. Any suggestions?

I recently built one of Troels monitor using Seas W15 and Hiquphon drivers and they sound really nice with decent bass.
Here is the link:

It's a little expensive but it is really worth it since you could try some other inexpensive design and it turns out not to be what you want and end up costing even more money.

Besides, Troels is really a nice guy who will answer all your question.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I really appreciate it! I've been looking at some of the small speakers over at the zaphaudio.com website too.

I think the best route will be a sub/sat system so I don't overwhelm the top of my desk with speakers. I think I will go lurk in the subwoofer section for a while...

Oh, and 69stingray, the weather in MA is much improved since the weekend 😀

I have heard the seas setup that zaph suggests and it is a great driver at a great price...but

what about the scan-speak 15w revolator series of woofers 3x the price but...

huge xmax and 30hz res freq...

Does anyone know how they compare?

thanks, gcm908
