And in the name of getting started on a cheap build, what sort of plate to plate impedance does a pair of 6l6gc's want?
6.6 Kohms. Both Mullard and Williamson style circuitry incorporate the O/P "iron" in a global negative feedback (GNFB) loop. To prevent O/P trafo core saturation from the low freq. error correction signal extra magnetic headroom above the O/P power produced is necessary. A look at a 6L6GC data sheet shows 40 WPC to be an easy enough goal. Edcor's CXPP100-6.6K O/P trafo will easily fill your need and allow for flirting with even more O/P power. Hammond's model 1650P is another possibility and may be easier for somebody in "Oz" to source.
