Hello all,
Was asked by a neighbor to recommend a small streaming system that could do world wide radio and CD's for a small living room.
Bose, came to mind, but need to ask if there is a better or more cost effective option to look at. Any suggestions or feedback appreciated.
She does not have anything (speakers, amp, anything) currently.
Regards,
Greg

Budget is an important consideration, but a Denon system is a good bet for a small living room.
CEOL N11DAB All In One System
Costs around £600 with speakers.

Thanks Galu,
That is pretty close in cost to the Bose, and I have real trouble wanting to recommend Bose. Bose works well, but has always seemed to me to be overpriced for the quality of the construction. IMHO
I will try to pin her down further on the money available.

Hi Maaco,
For a senior who knows nothing about computers, electronics or anything complicated at all and needs a does everything music solution including speakers, I doubt there is a raspberry solution. At least not that I have ever seen.
Thanks for the thought though. Let me know if there is something out there I don't know about.

Just get something like this
8 quid here
A sample here

It can be used as a PA or Karaoke too.
Or put a FM/USB/SD card/Bluetooth module in an old cassette/reciever.
Cds are mostly out of production.
Speakers you will get at a car boot sale.
My Mom watches YouTube videos on her cell, sound through a similar FM/amp unit over Bluetooth.
World radio on cell phone is possible, if your internet is good.
This will be a lot less than 600 quid

The FM modules are Chinese, about 1 to 1.5 quid (GBP) here with remote, 5.0 volts needed, 7805 is enough, taking from the preamp supply, about 12 volts, on most sets.
You can run USB drives, SD cards, FM, Bluetooth, and an aux input through these.
Sound is clear, and you can tweak the amplifier for tone.
Enough for an old dear.

Actually the simplest would be a tablet computer feeding a bluetooth speaker.
Tablet because of the large display.
But my Mom is hesitant to adapt to new stuff, see how the old lady likes the idea.
