Well, the 8" sub arrived. After fiddling around with it for a little while (a wire had become loose in transit, and I didn't want to ship it back to Germany), it works quite nicely. Solid down to 50Hz, still something at 45Hz. Enough for most pop music.
I've had it cranked up, and the sub + column will nudge 100dB at just over 2m distance, so that's slightly over 106dB@1m, and it just starts to sound rough. 20dB down on my big PA, but still pretty loud.
I'm currently using the DEQ2496 to do EQ duties, but am thinking about building a MiniDSP into the sub, though the lack of dynamic EQ puts me off slightly. Something to think about, though, if the column gets a lot of use.
So, next up is to re-build the column, ensuring I can fit a pole mount, inductors, etc in there. The baffle of this prototype also ended up slightly twisted along its length, so I'll be paying close attention to that next time around. Once the new cab is done, I'll paint it black, add a grille, and push it into service. It'll be used for mostly speech and acoustic music, maybe the occasional party.

How have thou crossed over? I favour a subwoofer second order lowpass complementing the fullrange natural roll-off. Both paths have equal piston area, so the highpass path can contribute some bass.
The sub has an active 120Hz filter. I think its a 2nd order slope, but I don't know for sure. Since the 8" cone has a lot more Xmax than the little Bose drivers, I'm happy for that alone to do the bass.
Remember this is a small PA system, so we must consider power handling - having the small drivers trying to do bass will make the midrange muddy.

Yes, but thou measured thermic power handling with high excursion. If the voice coil is longer than the front plate, then it needs excursion for maximum power handling.
Limiting excursion of the three high-frequency drivers would indeed reduce distortions. But then it were best to employ different drivers, which do not need a treble boost and have less voice coil overhang.
