small mixer : creating a subgroup through hard panning?

Here's the situation. I've got a small analog mixer with no group controls (sound craft epm12) and I need to control a few mics together but independently from the rest.

Since the mixer has independent faders for left and right outputs, any reasons not to hard pan most inputs to the right bus, hard pan my mics group to the left bus and jumper the left output to an unused track hard panned right ? I don't need a stereo output but I want to keep the ability to balance the mix with the tracks faders.

It would be easier with mono summing after the main mix fader but that function isn't available on that.cheap board. :-(

I would just caution not to un-pan the unused input from right. Depending on the gain, you can create a path for feedback in the mixer on the left channel.

that's a very valid point... I'll build an external summing box for the L/R output. You never know what could happen when the mixer is left unattended.

Thanks for the inputs 🙂
