I am planning to build a small retro look portable iPhone dock. I could just build a large box and throw in some car speakers but I want it small and good to listen.
The problem is that I can't calculate the speakers. As an amp I use a ta2024 and I was thinking about a 3" driver in a small as possible enclosure I read many articles but in the end there is no result or they are to big.
And I don't get it how these commercial docks do it in such a small enclosure...
So I have a ta2024
I am thinking of 3" drivers
I want it to sound good
I want the enclosure as small as possible
Mabye someone has a design lying around?

Thrown together in a weekend. Gen1 CHR70/ modified Lepei/ misc. parts from the truck and shed/ iphone as source. Not really small or pretty but sounds great and takes a beating. I'm sure you could do something smaller with all the designs floating around here.

Hi,
I use a converted Bose sounddock - perhaps you can find a faulty one (or something similar) on eBay?

AH thanks! I have seen some Nice 3" drivers but al these data doesn't ring à Bell. THE speakers in THE photo's are Nice but a the enclosure is a bit to large I can go to 1 liter or so.
Hi Xerxes75
I made a couple of cubes of 5" (127mm), with the Tang Band W3-881SI that´s in clearence in parts express (part 299 113), and they have quite a decent sound... Im using a Yamaha YDA148 amplifier module from dealextreme.
You could make a little portable system of the amplifier and both cubes... or you could make all in one piece.

The HiVi B3N looks OK in a tiny box. Q is high at 1.4 ish in 1 liter sealed, but it will make them sound like they have bass. If you can make them a little bigger it would sound better.
They simply don't worry about bass extension or accuracy.

A little bigger 's not so bad
I have built 2 pairs of these; smaller, also very nice. (wife's computer, daughter's dorm room)

I prefer the CHRs. I also have them in Planet10s folded half towers for my computer. Sweet.
The amp(modified, of course) for the boom box is from parts express
Lepai Tripath TA2020 Class-T Hi-Fi Audio Amp w/Power Supply 310-300
I have a very talented friend who has a mixing room and a separate mastering room in his house. He has some very serious gear and well educated ears.
You should have seen the look on his face as we listened to Herbie Hancock's "Gershwin's World" from my iphone and the CHR boom box sitting on his trumpet case. We were giggling like little kids.

True.
My converted Bose has nothing below 80Hz, and a pig peak 120-160Hz. Has a reasonably full sound, even when out on a field. I'm working on cutting off the low bass to improve system efficiency.

Justout of curiosity, is the YDA148 board hat powerful? Have you compared with tripah amps, such as 41hz?
