Considering you are anatomically a human specimen and that I also know you to be a scholar and a gentlemen, I was rather concerned that this member had misread the situation. I am hoping this works out. Enthusiasm breeds involvement. Distaste breeds contempt.

yes, we can visit Audio Asylum if we're in the mood for vituperative mudslinging - cortisol and elevated BP from that kind of stress will kill ya

not for a minute do i doubt the info collected here. i guess it is my midwest breeding that i lug around. we are always looking for a nice answer. which i know is generally a canadian thing too ay? like i siad i got some folks to give it a shot so i am glad for them too. bh i am not really tied up in any of this stuff, just what i was programed to do by destiny so... namaste

I've only had the opportunity to hear one example of an AN system (must be at least 6yrs ago?)

You forget about the Cast AN10 from about the time of last year's diyFEST, They were quite reasonable, a little bit of mid-top ripple that got in the way, but that likely also something that would dimish with more break-in. Certainly leagues better that the Super 8, stamped 10s & 12s which are the only other examples i have heard so far.

my stamped AN10 are energetic but rough in the vocal region - if not for the roughness then would play really well in the Karlsonator12 - I don't know if a bit of felt on the inside of the wings in the driver area will ease those spots or not. They're there as a direct radiator. Graph wise its 3K peak looks no worse than that of FE206EN -

what might make the cast frame version play better? -

I may try a trap again with 0.39mH/6.8uF/10ohm or so
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

about 6 years ago I got this graph with 8R on the trap

FE206EN vs stamped frame AN8, each in a Druid size pipe, fixed mic and enclosure distances

Fred, I think you need way more than 10ohms there. If you can get better graph, I'm tempted to take my 10 stamped frame out from the closet. I think the minimal whizzer is a plus.

Here is nirvana classic 8 freq graph from manufacturer.

A bit off axis it (8 classic) may measure flat to past 10k.

But I am glad you are happy with it. That's what is important.

just broke in a pair of 'classic 8's' full range drivers from audio nirvana line. 10x10x32 in tower, made per audio nirvana plans by a buddy, with 3 inch port in bottom front. I bought a cheap appj set amp on amazon for $230, rolled the tubes and it rates 3.5 wpc. using an inexpensive oppo cdp and simple 16 gage copper wire cables. so.... I have owned and heard great gear in my life, grew up in a house with grand pianos and full sized harps. have one at home now my mother the professional musician plays daily. well. i have never in my life heard such amazing reproduction of music! i want to let you guys know how cheap and amazing this approach is. forget specs, charts, pricetags, size, $$$ cables... this is something you need to hear to believe. this system plays all types of music with such emotional impact you will never go back, the one caveat is a crummy recording played after a great one will be glaringly obvious. but with a sacd or 24 bit cd etc. this system will re inspire you to just listen to music again. we forget what this is all about i think. for under $1000 i have world class midrange and impeccable highs and lush lows. many full range drivers to choose from so choose carefully. eg. fostex are not that great really but very common ntl.

Happy to see that you have discovered the world of FR drivers.
If you experiment with more FR drivers you will find a lot of different tonalities between models. This is not a criticism, rather saying that if you have the inclination it is fun to build more FR speakers which will give impressive results in very different ways. I have not yet heard an Audio Nirvana, but I heard many other FR drivers. It is a never ending hobby.

ha, tbh i just got the 12 in ferrite drivers and am gonna put in a 1.5 l ported box per sellers specs. he is awrae the 5.6 l box is superior but i just do not have space nor do i jam like a drunk student. i know they all sound diff and to each his own but i really like the way my piano jazz and mel torme and ella soun from a sacd or hi qualitycd. i am not so much a diy guy for physical reasons etc and i am not gonna start tweaking endlessly, just got tired of chasing bugs bunny... but you guys get a bang out of it so i am glad you have something to keep you off the streets and off the smack.
