The right tool for the job is to use the correct transformer in the first place rather than use grinding wheels and welding equipment on expensive Lundahls . Common sense !!!

Well, I agreee with you that the Lundahls are expensive. But common sense depends on the intent and cost to do it. Jim already have the SE version but needs a PP version.. . . is to use the correct transformer in the first place . . . on expensive Lundahls . Common sense !!!
A mod will reduce resell price of the Lundahls. To someone who has the tools, understand the requirements and does not need to resell the OT, the mod is simple and cost practically nothing. Someone who has access to a machine shop may even choose to drill the welding points and tap the base to make a bolt on fastener.
It is very difficult to resell and will cost ~$700 to buy a new pair of LL1620 down here in Indonesia, but cost $15-30 to have the mod done by a professional.
