Simplistic NJFET RIAA

Hi nicoch46, I got the Jensen from TOBIAS JENSEN PRODUCTION A/S where I contacted Bjørn Jensen.

These are superior caps, providing much lower noise, better overall detail and mcuh more transient speed than the Nichicon I was using.

Worth the cost for sure. 😉

I order some rel rt 0,1uf that is a perfect bypass for nichicom KG ,I will report.

Ricardo use jensen 4 pole , that is one of the best caps ,and filter well ,not much difference in $ from 4700mf.... with KG better go on C-R-C+bypass

alternative caps

epcos sikorel ,rifa,mundorf

on cheap but good panasonic HA

Hi Guys,
thank you for reply, i will put this supply in my line pre-ampand maybe in my front end of my power-amp. I have many caps here ( 10000uF elna for audio, 1000uF ROE, 3300uF panasonic FC, 10000uF CDE 381LX ) i will try them with bypass cap wima. Thank you again for advise. Maxpou

D1 mod revaluation:

The noise lowered so much as to enable the use of a more detailed output cap.

I bypassed the 4.7u obligato with 100nF FT-3 and gained extension and smoothness.

Now I can hear subliminar detail previously hidden without downside of amplified noise.

More evident gains are on low bass extension, high freq detail and a wider soundstage.

If it proves good, I will optimize the connections and post images.

When this thread was "young" I was tempted from the idea to make salas circuit. At that time I dropped it for 2 main reasons.
- I had already constructed Pacific (original and Throrstenized) and sounded nowhere near my taste (thin sound, confused on complex pieces)
- I didn't know Salas and because the circuit was not finalized I didn't want to add a new grave to my abandoned circuits cemetery.

In the meantime a lot of things made me appreciate Salas many talents and seriousness so I have decided to do it. For now I use a low output MC and the 52db schematic is the one that I will construct, starting from psu.

My first question is which shunt schematic should I use.

Salas promised a "final pdf" with RIAA & P.S. latest schematics, complete BOM, possibly some PCB ideas and suggestions about components type. I don't wanna urge him, but I'll be waiting for this work.

P.S. a small suggestion about RIAA caps: could you please Salas indicated not only the closest std value, but even the calculated value? It could be useful if we are forced to paralled caps and we have access to a reliable meter to select them.

psgr and I, have been exchanging some data so to make it complete. We postponed because I wait for some pcb work for all final 3 suggested sensitivities.

The Riaa caps values as on the schematics are the exact calculated values you should use. Just measure and combine for those values.

Last question about for the shunt's parts quality is for stopper resistors (R2,R5,R6). Is it like grid stoppers ? Ultimately should be carbon composition ?

Finally, doing the layout "my way" I can use one shunt per channel and place the shunt between the two amplifying stages. What's your opinion on that ?

(You didn't tell me if you want more info for Repas)

Yes, prefer carbon, but it works with metal film, it is not that touchy. In any case, straight to the gate or base pins with short leg, as you do.

Incorporating the shunts on the phono board and using them per stage is the optimum practice. Use one for the first stages and one for the other two. First stage is the one you want to isolate the most.

If Repas is the hardware store on a small street, off Athinas main street, then I know it.
