First, I mixed up english terms between neutral, ground & earth. Sorry for that, too much for my little german brain. I will now refer to the terms below (UK plug btw)

What I meant to say:
For class I equipment ( - and using isolation power transformers, the typical diy stuff - ) where the yellow-green earth is connected to the conductive housing, it is typically safest and most reliable to simply switch/break the mains loop on the primary side of the power transformer using a simple single pole switch.
I disagree as well.I still disagree.
For much of our UK switching we are required to use two pole mains switches.
I can't recall the wording, nor to what classes of product this mandatory two pole applies to.
Speaking of outlet wiring I stumbled on this. Check your homes wiring.

I'm just curious,
Can anyone list/name HiFi equipment which is mains powered that has no On Off switch?
Or amplifiers with no On/Off switch?
NB I'm not referring to equipment with the power switch on the back.
Perhaps just a standby function etc.
I can think of loads of TVs with just standby..and my Cyrus CD player.
I'm thinking about switching as a function/ convenience.
Regards
M. Gregg

Don't have names, but there have been a few commercial phono preamps, etc.
lacking power switches, that were intended to be powered constantly.
I have a couple sub plate amps that just have stand by but no power switch. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head.
