Hello,
I am thinking for some time about a simple speaker that is easy to take with me when needed and is still "portable" as in not too big.
After some very good experience with the beyma 12p80ndv2 I started thinking again about this simple speaker.
The beyma 12p80ndv2 can be used in a ported 40l cab tuned to 50Hz.
It shelves -6db in the lowend so you lose some sensitivity but it can go as low as almost 45Hz.
We actually used the beyma 12p80 in a PA top using 3 of those woofers in a 120L ported cab. They really pack a big punch. very nice sounding. Group delay is also very low.
So a I was thinking about an easy to transport speaker that:
-can be used fullrange (many PA so called fullrange cabs don't even make it to 60Hz and sounds utterly like plastic/crap)
-sounds quite nice (A 3way has benefits, crossing the tweeter higher makes it less harsh sounding)
-easy to transport (40L cab is not that big and the 12p80 doesn't weigh that much)
-completely passive (I know it's not ideal but sometimes just a stereo set of speakers is all that is needed and easy to setup. Just a good and powerful stereo amp and of you go, an active high pass filter would be a good idea of course)
So for bass I would use the 12p80ndv2. 40L ported cab tuned at 50Hz. 35L is also ok but looses a little bit on the low side
Now for the mid section I would go for the 18sound 6nd410. 6ND410
very nice mid driver. Can also be used on a horn.
I would use it in a 2L closed box. can go from 200 to 8kHz. I was thinking for 200Hz to 5kHz. The reason is that crossing over at the critical mid section is a bad idea and is best avoided if possible. it will be beaming at 5kHz but as a compromise I think it will be ok. in some situations it's good to have some directivity....It will need to have around 6 db of attenuation to be on the same level as the woofer.
For the tweeter I was thinking for the beyma cd10nd. A nice little compression driver that sounds very nice. I have used it before.
Actually both the Mid and the Hi section can handle 2 woofers without a problem but then the cab will not be that portable anymore so the compromise will be using only 1 woofer.
Simulating with winisd Xmax is reached when using 1000w.
Output is around 120db at that point.
Also the simulation is fullspace using winisd.
So that is the basic idea I have, any comments are welcome.

Pretty sure WinISD is half-space, not full.
At least, comparing the same driver in that and Hornresp suggests so.
