Side fire sub, how close can magnet be to side?

Hi,

I'm in the process of building a HT speaker setup using MTM configuration on all five speakers (Vifa PLW11 & PLH270). The first test speaker is done and it sounds great!

However for this system I would like to build stereo subs, in a side firing configuration, to the base of 2 of these speakers by extending the height of the box to create a tower.

A driver in this configuration will have its magnet between 3.7 and 4.2 cm's from the opposite side wall (internal width is 12 cm) - would this cause problems that could not be resolved by some damping with a dense material like felt or tar sheets?

I would use a Vifa PLW22 in 13 liter enclosure (Fc @ 57Hz) and it will be driven by a 200W amp and a Marchand WM8 Bassis EQ (which should hopefully move the response down a further octave or two).

Any input welcomed.

Thanks, Tim.

Like this.
the config is 1 audax 6.5" driver and a titanium tweeter. and a kenwood 10" driver side fireing ported out the rear. THERE loud too.
