I understand the adopted term "Smart" being used in many current devices these days.People have started to install smart lighting and smart switches to control many devices in their homes. My neighbour controls his pool temperature via his phone. The local Hydro utility wants to install remote smart thermostats to control the temperature inside peoples homes during times of heavy hydro demands. I said not in my house please.
"Smart TV", etc etc.
Basically, these things have their own minds - programmed intelligence.
What I dislike about smart devices is that ironically, they also have the ability to turn people into stupid, dumb, and just plain lazy.
Oh the horror of actually having to phyaically walk across the room to turn on the lights in that room, and later having to exert the physical energy to turn it back off later.
And using your brain and memory, to actually accomplish that simple physical task - that's simply not convenient to allow, it burns up brain cells, loads down your grey matter with stupid mundane crap that you'd prefer to save for other shallow tasks.
Mind you, I'm not against convenience features or products....
I use a few timers to control the lighting in my home.
I also have an automatic "setback" thermostat for the heating system.
These are simply for saving money on utilities, that's all.
But the flood of "Smart" devices, and being fundamentally electronic in design, makes them prone to failure eventually.
They made have a value towards convenience, but they also make people lazy, and if/when a device fails, lordy knows if the person can survive without it.
Studies have shown that people become addicted to their smartphones, and when the battery craps out, or loses cell service, they become agitated, depressed, feelings of anxiety.
In my city, the electronic parts shops are now outnumbered by cell phone shops, new / accessories / parts / actual repairs, in the lane where the component shops have been doing business for a long time.
You should see the people who are getting their phones fixed, they are like addicts coming off a high...cross eyed, jumpy, fidgety, anxious and so on!
They are like zombies without their phones...with a buzzy bug in what used to be their minds...

I once was on a bus headed to work.
A young teenager was glued to his phone, as they all are these days.
Upon stepping off the bus, he tripped on the steps, falling flat on the pavement, cellphone flying and shattering..
I clearly heard him scream, and yell "damn, my whole world is on that phone!"
Pathetic loser, one of many.
I remember an old movie with neighbors changing each other's TV channels with RF remotes.
Wonder if that will happen soon in real life, I am punting on my clothes in the dark, and suddenly the lights come on!
So no, not going to put flimsy Chinese stuff permanently on my mains supply.
Might go bang. Scary thought, that.

I know of two teenagers who died because they were driving scooters, and working their phones at the same time.
One was even going the wrong way against a bus. He was an only child, father has recovered a little after many years.
Sobering thought.

Thanks for your reply. Actually that's what I do. When I want to listen to music, I turn it on, and when I am done, I turn it off.Don´t-overthink-it 🙂
Why?
And why make it independent of actual use? That´s nonsense.
When you want to listen to Music: turn it ON
When you are done, turn it OFF
What 99.99999999999999% of people do.
I set the timer to turn it off at 11pm just in case I forget to turn it off.
I hope my original question is not controversial. I was just describing how my setup is currently and asking whether turning an amp on/off everyday via the wall switch would impact amp life.

I don't think so, but the quality of the switch. with poor (arcing) contacts, would definitely cause the amp life to go down.
Use the switch to control a SSR that turns off all the extra stuff at home that should go off by 11 PM, use a good quality SSR.
That should work.

I think he just started this threat to keep other members fighting and he is laughing at us that we trappedin his silly question
Silly fellow, should worry about wasting power.
And one of many odd balls here.
Enjoy the fairground attractions...

Again the remark that switching on/off transformers with a zero crossing SSR is not a wise idea. Just a reminder.
Guys, Notakosan was just asking a simple question: could powering off with a smart switch damage its amp or PS ? Short answer is no.
Words like silly, stupid, odd, handicapped, phone addict zombies, etc, have no place here, and can be hurtful. The matter is not to judge why Notakosan has to use such a switch. Be kind, and enjoy music !

Ah hurtful. It is words not actions. Feeling hurt by words is a choice. Woke and newspeak should have no place in this world IMO.

When I was a young boy, us kids were taught a very simple phrase by our parents, teachers, elders.
It was told to us to remember, and live by, and also to protect us.
Alas, these days, it seems that that simple phrase is long lost in society's past, and surely would be good to bring back before it's too late.
I wouldn't be surprised that if it eventually took hold again, society might get more like it used to be.
"Sticks and stones may break my bones - but names (words) will never hurt me."
Why do you want to waste power and contribute to global warming by keeping equipment switched on when not in use?
And risk of surge damage?
Sounds self indulgent and careless to do that.

I remember when people were imploring others on the net to leave their computers, etc ON all the time. Why do you want to waste power and contribute to global warming by keeping equipment switched on when not in use?

Giving all sorts of BS why "it's better"
All nonsense from idiots who know nothing about electronics.

Same over here. Strange is that gay people and other minorities were not beaten up etc. and already had equal rights then. Since woke began and choice of words can get one cancelled things have not changed for the better. The words are chosen carefully and replaced for new newspeak words when oversensitivity tells to do that but the actions when things are really wrong are 0. It is also a perfect means to get rid of people that think differently. I read up on the J.K. Rowling issue and think that is simply incredible and very mean at the same time.
Too bad this virus is very harmful and goes over the world. All issues are "solved" by the words that are chosen and safe spaces are created that are dangerous when you are normal. Oops, a CIS male.
