serial complainer. Probably would have been unhappy at the knicks game as well - I bet his wife and daughter were well chuffed that he wasn't there to be a miserable pr1ck about some minor slight or other.

Some people make a pass-time out of being self-righteously offended by everything and should just stay at home.

Two prom.concerts last week (36 & 42). Phone ringing in both concerts. Man asleep and wheezing in the row in front - the music woke him up before he started actually snoring.
The lark ascended, but was in danger of being shot down by a cough every few bars.
aardvarkash10 - if you know The Lark Ascending you will understand why I mention it particularly.

The chat in movie theaters is definitely a problem. Some folks behave as though they are at home and comment loudly all the time.
The concert situation is also a problem as tickets for good performers are not cheap and everyone must surely sit quietly and just LISTEN.
I remember the first time I heard Lee Konitz play in NYC some jerk sat in front of him and "conducted" his solos which annoyed everone

It can be a cultural thing. In western Europe and North America we expect audience silence at the movies. Ever seen a movie in India, Russia, Latin America or the Caribbean? No silent, idle watching there! What fun would that be? 😉

I find it difficult to understand how someone waving their hands about is so offensive - ffs, close your eyes!

Chat, cellphone conversations, crinkling bags of junkfood in the 'piano' moments, for sure. But really - to be so precious that you can't allow for someone else's quiet enjoyment at a concert, however infantile or derivative the action might be, just strikes me as elitist bollocks. Air guitar? Plonker, but hey if it enhances your experience and you don't smite me with your fret hand, fine. Air conductor? Hahahahahahaha - you are missing every 7th beat and pointed to the woodwind when the emphasis was for brass, but again, go for your life.

Disclosure - a fully committed, newspaper carrying, cigarette lighter waving, rice throwing, profanity expelling, makeup wearing member of the Rocky Horror Picture Show Audience Participation Experience.

It's not offensive, it's irritating. Highly irritating. It's the terrible contrast that kills me. We're high, we're enjoying ourselves, we (for a moment) are fooled into thinking life is good; so there's nothing so shocking than to see a jerk in front of you doing something stupid - you're reminded, in a painful instant, that life is not so good after all. That sucker just ruined my experience. I really want to kill him.

So yeah you're open to the experience, your defenses are down and that's when it really hurts

Listening to the lunchtime organ concert in the Cathedral yesterday, it struck me that the tourists wandering about, and the transactions in the shop, were less distracting than concert hall irritations.

Could this be because the organ is usually easier to follow than a symphony orchestra, or because the cost of the Cathedral concerts are one tenth that of the Royal Albert Hall tickets?

Most distracting was the smell of pies from the Cloister Cafe!
