Shure V15 III Needle Advice

Oh, no, my V15 went the way of all things perhaps 25 years ago. As I said, I thought it was pretty good for its time, but it's not anything I'd use today (ATM, I use a Technics MM, but its days are also numbered...). I suspect that an Audio Technica is in my future.

Just my 2cents.
I bought the V15/III when it was introduced. Fine cartridge, and is/was some way ahead of 'cheaper' Shure's.
I had bad experiences with the Swiss replacements - dreadful value..poor suspension (or lack of a proper..) and abysmal cantilever.

I've still two boxed (& unused) V15/III's- and was fortunate to get NOS US Shure styli on eBay a few years back - £90 total for an E/HE/G.
Nothing like those prices now - as a V15/III body with an MR (not even NOS) just sold for £260..and the MR is poor compared to an original HE.

I can't offer a 'hands-on' solution, as I agree the original (US) Shure product was top-spec...but don't agree that NOS suspensions inevitably deteriorate..not my experience at all...however few now exist.

One 'offbeat' possibility is to transfer a complete cantilever/suspension-block from, say, a US M75ED or M91ED into the V15 stylus housing.
It can be done and (for me) was actually superior to the 'E' - as the thin V15/III cantilever seemingly 'loses' information.

Frank,

I am not sure to call you Lucky, Smart or Visionary. Maybe just all three!

I would love to hear a comparison of one of those NOS Shures and which ever AT that Sy winds up with. (Sy maybe the AT440MLA would be a contender, Increadible Tracking, Reasonable, Fast but maybe a little bright).

I am awaiting my invitation!

Regards//Keith

Unless the 'replacement-market' is prepared to build to the original design parameters then these 'desirable' PU's from yesteryear are essentially History...
Unfortunately Shure's Mexican V15/III-MR stylus also had a much different compliance (& was very temperature-dependent) + 'tizzy' sound compared to US production.

If this was like a year+ back then I'd advise the OP to buy NOS from eBay as great PUs could still be bought 'dirt-cheap' - and I've definitely never encountered 'problems' with over 60 PU/styli.

Regarding the V15/III 'transplant' - some years back I did later see someone else mention this.
Apparently he was also able to solder the (or 'a') tie-back wire (the tiny 'blob' you see @ the housing end)...but the other Shure versions mentioned have a slightly larger suspension-block - so by wetting that, +the housing, you can reasonably easily 'set it' to the precise angle (pushed in using a needle..) - then it stays set when it dries out.
To the list above you can add the M95ED stylus
I've a few 95HE - & imagine what a V15/III HE stylus would cost now - even I paid £50 for that!
