That´s a VERY simplistic view, too broad a brush to paint anything. It reminded me of a famous military medicine man who said a while ago that the large number of cancer cases must be linked to too many nitrates in our food cause nitrogen is the base of growing fast anything in nature.Too much or too scarce nitrogen in our food both should have a link to cancer.
probably based on the true but unrelated fact that fertilizers typically intoduces tons of nitrogen into soil ... but for good reason,
Nitrogen indeed is the base of growing anything organic, since it´s an essential part of protein, go figure.
Even our "deadest" organs, such as nails and hair use it.
Sadly cancer is a very complex illness, in fact a group of illnesses, broadly related, there is a deep Genetic reason for it, and can´t be explained by any "simplistic" reduction.
If it only were so simple!! 🙂
File it together with those who say "cancer is acidic so you must eat alkaline foods, or take 2 spoons of bicarbonate daily" and similar stuff.
Not suggesting any specific treatment or "cure" (which by the way is against Forum rules), quite the contrary, stating that we have advanced A LOT in the last 50 years and regular Medicine is getting better every day.
Cancer is the second biggest cause of death, and is increased by pollution.
We have areas in Punjab State of India where the excess fertilizer has leached into the ground water, and there is no way to remove the pesticides and fertilizer residues from drinking water.
Little kids getting bone cancer...
Why?
As a way to get more food grains, fertilizer and pesticides were given free of cost to farmers, and so was water for their deep water (bore or tube) wells.
So they got almost zero input cost, and used excess quantities in the belief that it would yield more produce.
This has happened in cotton also, the pesticides residues are very high in the seed, which is used for edible oil extraction.
Now there are 'cancer trains' running from Abohar in Punjab State to Bikaner in Rajasthan State, where treatment is available free of cost, and a network of charities arranges for accommodation and food at nominal prices for the patients and caretakers.
Oral cancer from chewing tobacco, and tobacco related diseases due to easy use of tobacco are also common now.
A century ago, cigarettes had just entered the market, you needed a pipe or cigar to use tobacco.
Smokeless tobacco was an oddity, here it is too real.
But nobody forces you to use tobacco, or eat junk food.
Also compare your waking hours to your grandparents'. we are awake much longer in artificial light, they were in tune with the natural light of dawn and dusk.
And here we had anti dam activists, who were found to be funded by some foreign churches....now the Narmada dam has changed lives in Gujarat State.
Water shortages have been overcome, and farmers who had one crop now have three crops a year, they are prosperous, and live on their land rather than becoming refugees looking for work in the big cities.
Their traditions are maintained, and the populations are diffused...
Long post, political in some parts, I leave it for the moderators to decide.

Your remark "shapeshifting reptilian aliens" is below the belt and not accepted. It is of low class and suggesting I am into extreme right wing stuff which is about the worst one can be accused of in your country (you are very aware of this) and you know a part of my personal history indicating otherwise. I demand you take this silly comment back and reported your post. Shame on you.
You are absolutely correct, I should not have made that remark. For what it's worth, I did not think about what you wrote via PM when I made it, I just chose the most absurd theory I ever heard of. I never meant to imply that you are extreme right or extreme anything.
Correction:
Post # 143...free power (not water) was given to farmers for their tube / bore / deep wells.
I am not so alert today...getting old.

Now please tell me what vegan food is made of,
Plants.
where and how things are produced,
At various locations.
what the environmental impact of those crops is
Much smaller than that of meat, because the conversion efficiency from feed to meat in farm animals is quite low.
and what this food does to your body.
It reduces the risk of heart diseases considerably. You do have to add B12 artificially and ensure you have a well-balanced vegan diet, vegan organizations can help you with that.
Also, bear in mind that the ratio of edible mass to animal mass in most animals is 25 to 35 %, the rest is stuff like skin and bones, hooves and such like.
Basically a cow of 400 kilos will yield about 130 kilos of edibles, including 'emulsified high fat offal tube', where the meat is steamed off the carcass, and ground up, including eyes and other non saleable cuts, spiced and packed.
The offal tube is sausage....really, a technical description of them.
Add to that the effort of shipping dressed meat from New Zealand and Argentina (?) to Europe in refrigerated containers, and storing the meat until sold and consumed...that itself uses a lot of energy, the exhaust emissions from container ships add up to a lot when global warming is considered.
There have been news items about deforestation in Brazil, the land was converted to pasture for grazing animals for export to markets abroad.
And the increase in prosperity in places like China and Japan has caused meat consumption to increase.
The world champion seems to be the USA, the daily per capita consumption of meat and meat in processed form is about 500 grams....

Please rethink one of the main components of vegan food which is soya, the impact of growing of soya (the usage of pesticides and water), the impact of soya on the human body. Also rethink the other ingredients used like palm oil, the impact of its production, the impact on the human body.
It would be nice if we could divide in black/white, good/bad but it does not work like that. The supposed bad may have some good properties, the "good" may have some very bad properties.

Soy is also one of the components of the animal feed used for meat and dairy production. In fact soy for animal feed often comes from soy plantations on cut-down tropical forests, while the soy for human consumption that you can buy in the Netherlands is typically grown in Europe.
In any case, soy is only a small part of my diet (I've been a vegan since about 1999...2000), and it is getting smaller. There are many vegan products on the market nowadays made of alternatives, for example lupine. And no, I haven't grown breasts.

Coincidentally I know someone working in the soya industry. It is business, just like the green religion. Don't think all is nice and clean. DNA manipulated soy from elsewhere is mixed with locally produced soy as demand is high. I am happy to know you don't have breasts 🙂 You probably would have if you would have started the habit at young age.
Palm fat is a nasty orange very smelly stuff. It needs to be treated, discolored etc. at 200 degrees Celsius in a kind of refinery. It has severe impact on environment and is not healthy at all. Still you'll find it in products where it previously was not used. It is cheap and that means more profit.
Margarine is not far away from being a plastics. Real butter is frowned upon but is is the better product. That stuff produced by those poor cows and these ecoterrorists.
I think it is safe to say that processed foods are to be avoided. We'll see the numbers of certain things rising and then some can investigate the why and how.

The Chinese and Koreans., Japanese and their neighbors do not have issues with soy, which is used as animal feed in the USA. It is the manipulated strains that cause problems.
Palm oil, particularly as hydrogenated, as used in chocolates, is best avoided. That is putting it mildly...

A medical person I know showed me a short video what happens when they are pulling a fibre from a vain in their hospital. The white polymeric plastic like stuff is indeed from transfats. This made me just as radical as hardcore vegans: I refuse to eat stuff with palm oil, palm fat or anything transfat. To my surprise I have to pay extra today for peanut butter made of peanuts 🙂 Yes, even peanut butter has palm stuff and/or cotton seed oils in it.
We never had palm stuff in chocolate, croissants etc. but please check todays products. Even long running classic products/brands have been converted to the cheapest of cheap. Another one is sugar that has been replaced for glucose syrup....
Ah well, it is simpler and healthier to eat natures products instead of factory produced artificial stuff. The latter may be based on plants but so is heroin.

Look for 'Palmitate' in the contents.
That is palm based trans fat.
All trans fats should be avoided in general.

I know the climate & resource depletion issue from the early 1970s when the trend became noticeable. "What to do?" became a default subject during coffee- and tea breaks at the faculty and the "averaged" answer became "technology will find a solution". What got addressed was acid rain but the rest was pushed ahead, "waiting for a technological solution". Never addressed was the issue that a service or industry, once privatized, has to make a profit which also implies growth forever. Apply that to the issue of the growth in iatrogenic deaths for instance, new products to replace old ones (like equipment using vacuum tubes) even when (Jevons Paradox) that means forever growth of energy supply. The tactics of having a small “organisation” (in fact a radical one person club) forcing a government to change this and that might as well be an instrument for that same government. “Some measures have to be taken.”
Bad experiences here with crowds following one person.
@Faste Eddie D: I bet you don't have any fake wood/MDF based furniture in your home?
Coca Cola uses corn syrup (liquid glucose) instead of sugar in the USA, as it is much cheaper.
Nobody forces you to drink cola and eat chocolates...but the entry of such products has be be kept track of...for personal safety.

It also looks better on the ingredients list. It's not unusual to see products advertised as having "no added sugar" that consist of all sorts of ingredients with a high sugar content: dates, corn syrup, maple syrup...
Please try to filter your daily food supply with the terms "glucose syrup" and "transfat" in all their made up fancy marketing/disguising names and see what is left on your list. Don't be fooled by words that seem to indicate herbal like "palm" and "cotton". Give this group a color like red.
- That is shocking!
Then filter products on having only sunflower, olive or any natural oil. Give this group the color green.
- Again shocking.
The first category (red) can now be investigated by who it produced and where ingredients came from and how they were grown/produced.
- another interesting discovery
This small investigation will make you think over decisions and your diet.

What if the next study confirms that David Henry Thoreau experiment at Walden lake in the 19th century of working one day/week and relying only on harvesting wild species of plants for food was invaluable for a good quality life? That´s a VERY simplistic view, too broad a brush to paint anything.

Maybe not...as there were times when tuberculosis due to low animal protein intake while living in cold conditions was as effective as cancer is today...

Human evolution has some "quirkies", one is that vit B12 produced in the intestines no longer can be absorbed: it leaves via excrement. Hence some animals consume some of it, because B12 is a water-soluble vit that can't be stored long in the body, contrary to fat-soluble vitamins. So vegans need B12 supplement which requires industrial production and those deficient in B12 will experience craving for instance for meat. A study on the issue of craving concluded that it's related to deficiency of a nutrient, resulting in overconsumption of food, the major reason for obesity and worse. Ignoring that has been / still is rather profitable. Also, bear in mind that the ratio of edible mass to animal mass in most animals is 25 to 35 %, the rest is stuff like skin and bones, hooves and such like.
